This account is of something quite interesting that happened to me about 15 years whilst taking LSD.
I had just moved back to my home town and didn't know many people. At that point I was relatively inexperienced in drugs. I was used to smoking weed regularly and had done a couple of LSD trips at university. A new friend I made at work invited me to go round one weekend to his mates house to take some acid. I was a bit apprehensive as I didn't really know the people but I am a fairly confident sort of person and figured I could probably keep it together, besides if I ended up not enjoying their company I could just wander off and trip on my own.
I got there about 7pm and we all dropped 1 tab pretty much straight away. At that point we put some tunes on and sat down to play a board game while we were waiting to come up. After about 30 mins I could feel the slight beginnings of my perception shifting. It was then that the weird thing happened. There was a fly in the room that was buzzing over the board and generally doing all our heads in! At one point I decided to grab the fly and kill it and as I made the decision it was as if time really stretched. I wasn't looking directly at the fly, rather I was looking down at the board and the fly was above me. Somehow I could clearly perceive the position of the fly as it swooped down and flew behind my head. It was at that moment that I instinctively reached out and grabbed the fly enclosing it in my fist. The weird thing was that the fly was still way behind my head when I did this and I did the whole thing without taking my eyes off the board. The fly was the sort of black house fly that is normally a nightmare to swat with your hands when you are looking straight at it. It was like a full-on ninja reflex moment.
Needless to say the rest of the party who had never met me before were like "Holy fuck! What did you just do? Are you a fucking martial arts freak or something?". I'm not and in a normal state of mind the chances of me catching that fly in that way must have been 1000:1 but some how the LSD slowed time to the point that my reflexes, just at that point on the come-up, were incredibly acute. I think it just goes to show that the mind is capable of some pretty amazing things if we could only find a way to tap into that potential, (for something a bit more useful than catching flies anyway).
