Insomnia! *MEGA-thread*

My man is on Seroquel and it knocks him out pretty good.
I am on Clonazepam and it helps me relax and sleep.

Probably a nice vigarous workout and a nice diet might help too. Always try natural methods before chemical (medications). Also some herbal medications might help. Acupuncture is also known to help at times too.
 
Prolonged Use of Melatonin & Insomnia

I've recently started taking melatonin for insomnia and it has helped slightly. However, I've noticed that on nights I don't take melatonin, it is extremely difficult for me to fall asleep; maybe more so than it was before I started taking the melatonin.

I'm concerned that prolonged use of melatonin could inhibit my ability to fall asleep naturally. Does long term use of melatonin decrease its natural production in the body?

Also, while I'm on the topic of sleep, I would greatly appreciate any tips on staying asleep. I often spend several hours trying to fall asleep only to wake up shortly after finally passing out.
 
I usually use it in doses around 3-6 mg. 1 mg sounds too small to me. I've found that after taking it too often for a while it's much harder for me to get to sleep without it. I've also found that if use is kept down to 2-4 nights per week then very few if any problems occur.

"...some studies suggest that smaller doses (for example 0.3 mg as opposed to 3 mg) are just as effective. Large doses of melatonin can even be counterproductive..."

Over 3mg can be kind of uncomfortable and dysphoric. I'm going to try half a pill and see how that goes.

Also from Wikipedia:
"Extremely high doses of melatonin (50 mg) dramatically increased REM sleep time and dream activity in both people with and without narcolepsy."

Does anyone have any experience in taking such large doses of melatonin?
 
i've experienced insomnia after taking melatonin nightly for a month. tolerance builds pretty fast if taken daily. i've read conflicting things about its safety. i mean, you're messing with your hormones.. kind of like DHEA

much is yet to be proven, but i wouldn't doubt that taking such supplements daily for say 1-2yrs causes the body to synthesize less of said chemical - either temporarily or permanently afterwards

also, be wary of mixing melatonin w/stimulants. i don't know why, but whenever i've taken melatonin to sleep after a day on stims (esp d-amp) it's done weird things to my heart- i got bad hypertension. i'm sure there is some interaction going on, but what it is, who knows.. so be careful

its a neurotransmitter bro, you only need it in the mcg range (even the typical 1mg is about 3x too much).

increasing dosages and observing increased effects is psychosomatic.

at the height of my tolerance to it, i took 10mg. i felt so uncomfortable. i thought i'd have to go to the hospital..cold sweats & hypertension, like my heart was pounding+angina (chest pain), hard to breathe.. luckily i had a 10mg valium on hand, but even that barely eased the tension

needless to say i didn't sleep at all that day, could not lie on my back, and i felt really sick for about a week afterwards.. i think i lost some hearing even, cause i had ringing in my ears for days & haven't been able to hear as well since

be careful dude.. as others have said, you prolly only need a mcg dosage. keep it as low as possible. large doses seem to only have negative effects
 
Going to try to take 1.5 tonight. I switch between dipenhydramine, a beer or two, melatonin and nothing.
 
i've taken doses up to 15mg and had nothing apart from insanely vivid dreams.
 
I have been taking like 20 mg regularly for the past few days just cuz i dont do anything in moderation and i was convinced it wouldnt work at a low dose.

I searched this cuz i was wonderin if melatonin would work with a decently high dose of MDPV insufflated bout 5 hours ago
 
well it kinda worked tho the mdpv could just be wearing off its been about 5 and a half hours since last redose.. though i did about 6 5mg bumps over the course of an hour and no i did not have a scale but I just eyeballed it from comparison to jwh-018 (yes I know they are very different substances but MDPV seems to be less dense then jwh-018 so i figured it wouldn't be a problem, though now I am reconsidering that thought). I dont know how long the effects take to wear off as this was the first time i tried it... I know it is stupid to do that much the first time and without a scale but i wasn't getting the expected effects from the recommended dosage... and yea this is probably the wrong place for this but I figured i'd give an update.. and I'm gonna try and go to sleep now... i didn't even attempt earlier considering i couldn't even keep myself from moving so sleep was out of the question... i am thinking that this is not good in high doses (health-wise) and am going to try it in low doses periodically tomorrow and see if that goes any better. Heart Rate before Melatonin was roughly 150 bpm and now it is around 120 bpm and thats after 15 or 20 mg of melatonin I'm not sure if I took the fourth pill or not. So yea if anyone has had a similair experience let me know I would be interested to hear. Also any better methods of coming down and going to sleep (benzos are out of the question). You may be able to tell I'm still under the influence of MDPV because I am rambling on and on. But yea goodnight from Miami I'm going to sleep! Hopefully.
 
damn I didn't realize that much time went by... Tweaker time is definitely an effect... but yea goodnight forreal though... until tomorrow... maybe I will give another update idk... if I can find this thread again...
 
alright so i just remembered that I took the fourth pill... the reason I wasn't sure was because it fell on my bed and I ran out of water but then I dry swallowed it... Seeing the empty water bottle on the ground reminded me and I figured if I didn't update tomorrow everyone should have accurate info... So roughly 40 mg MDPV insufflated over an hour and 20 mg Melatonin swallowed at T:+5:00... and all those numbers are rough but should be pretty much correct... alright thats officially it. BYE.
 
ya so if anyone would like to know I never was able to fall asleep... At first I experienced delerious feelings all the while sweating a lot (though it could of just been hot im not really sure... it sure as hell was hot to me) then the delerious feelings left and I eventually began feeling pressure on my chest and shortness of breath... which lasted throughout today up to now though it is slowly receding... So yea not gonna do that again... though i still am interested if MDPV would be pleasant in moderate doses...
 
I took Melatonin for awhile and aside from the very vivid dreams (I had my first dream that involved an out of body experience while dreaming) I had while taking melatonin with Vitamin B3 it just helped me fall asleep and get on a more regular sleep cycle.

I never combined Melatonin with other drugs even just herb or booze.
