Insomnia! *MEGA-thread*

wow i could never handle that. i can do early-morning work as necessary, but an early schedule is something that's a deal breaker for me lol.

I actually don't have to go into work until 8a... I got used to being at work at 6:30a (finish at 3p) over the summer... So even though I now don't go in until 7 or 8a, I still get up early. Take my time, do some reading/cleaning, have time for things other than "getting ready" in the morning, you know? It sucks I can't leave 'til 4:30 but meh.

Didn't want to start a new thread just for this, but I thought it fit in here well enough.

Does anyone else ever experience a night where they lay in bed unable to sleep the vast majority of the night? However, after getting up you still feel perfectly rested through your day?

This is a rarity for me, and can't (I don't think at least) be explained by any of the medications I take. One certainty is that I love it when it works out that way.

I live in a state with legal medical marijuana. I walked into a clinic, told the doctor about my menopausal insomnia, got an instant prescription and now grow a few plants, cook it with butter, make cookies, eat 1/4 of 1 cookie 20 minutes before bed and sleep all night. My only complaint is that I don't remember my dreams. I try not to do it more than 2-3 times a week to keep my tolerance down. On the other nights I usually wake up at 4AM so I take care of my mod duties on BL and talk to FB friends half way around the world who are just getting home from work LOL. There is never any point in trying to go back to sleep but I have to say that the bonus of getting to see the sun come up is a big one for me.

Mine isn't really a time, since I have to fall asleep at different times of the day for the job. I typically give myself an hour to attempt to sleep. If I cannot fall asleep, I meditate or pray for a while, taking deep breaths to calm my mind down.

If I can't fall asleep within the next hour after that, I read to try to tire my brain out. If that doesn't work, I do some exercise to wake myself up...

None of these things are in any order either. If nothing works, then I just accept it.

About 4-5 days before I begin my period I have insomnia. I've researched this topic to see what may be causing it, but the only explanation I really found was "hormones".

Have any other ladies experienced this? I find it so frustrating.

^ Yeah, I've experienced this quite a few times. Haven't found a solution other than just deal with it...

That's kind of what I figured lol. I'm going to start the pill soon to hopefully balance my hormones out because my PMS has me all over the map and I can't take it anymore...

Yeah I'm 21 and not too crazy about putting even more chemicals in my body but I'll just see what my gyno recommends when I go in January :) I get severe panic attacks, depression, suicidal thoughts etc. in place of just being a bitch before my period each month.

I think mine is PMDD which birth control wouldn't really fix, SSRI'S are what's recommended (which i cant take) but that's a whole different topic and doesn't have to do with insomnia lol.

^ There is a PMDD thread kickin' around here somewhere... I believe I have it--Never been diagnosed, but I match most of the classic symptoms. And yeah, I just said "bitchy" to glance over the issue--Not going to go into how Tuesday/Wednesday of this past week was for me with (what I think is) PMDD and Christmas fast approaching! Egad.

But yeah, we've yanked this thread far from its original topic... Let's leave it be, shall we, until we come back to speak on insomnia? (Didn't mean for this last bit to sound rude...hope it doesn't come off that way... :-/)

^ It didn't come off as rude - no worries! <3

Anyway- I go through bouts of insomnia and right now is one of those times. I've tried SO much.. Benzos, Z drugs, diphenhydramine, sleep hygiene, relaxation....but nothing is helping me. I'm used to going to sleep at 11pm and waking up around 7am so I stick to that. But I've been up for almost over 48 hours straight now (not drug induced). I have an awful migraine coupled with the nausea from it too.

I guess my question is this: Has anyone tried almost everything for insomnia but still unable to sleep? I do opiates & benzos but that's it. I just don't know what gives...

I been sleeping fine but getting to sleep is a bitch for me. I'm an addict so I gotta be careful about what I put into my body. lately sedating antihistamines+high dose melatonin works but I have horrid hangovers in the morning for an hour or two. :/ opis were the only thing that I could really use to achieve mostly normal sleep :/
