I somehow missed a shit ton on a shot of skag last night, and it swelled a lot and became sore to the touch. Swelling/pain are going away... Safe to assume it's gonna be fine?
 
just keep a good eye on it, Bob. i'd probably get out the heat compress and apply some heat on and off throughout the day. maybe take a small dose of an NSAID to help with the swelling and pain.

if it starts to spread and get worse, you know what to do.
 
I wrapped a warm, wet towel on it for 'bout half an hour once it happened, then i took a shower 4 hours ago and it's hardly noticeable. Thanks :)
 
Hard knot under my skin

I have searched the site but am having a hard time finding any answers. Most of the information seems to be so conflicting it's hard to get an idea of what I might have.
I have developed a hard knot under my skin in above the bend in my elbow where I frequently inject. It is slightly less than an inch in diameter. The knot is not painful but tender, and it is not move-able. It has not grown or diminished in size over the past 3 days and I do not believe it is an abscess because it is not puss filled and it isn't painful just slightly tender if I apply pressure.
I filter my drugs and try to be as safe as possible but I have 'difficult' veins and use the same site repeatedly. I am also fairly new to iv administration. Any information as to what this might be, whether common or not, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.
 
Wow .... this takes me to a dark place....long ago...this has happened to me when I used to bang poorly broken/filtered morphine like a noob. Exactly as you described. It lasted a few weeks. I finally went to the ER. The doctor treated me like a scumbag and said I needed surgery and referred me to a specialist/surgeon he knew I couldn't afford. On a whim and a shot in the dark a friend's parent who knew everything about what I was doing copped me some super strong antibiotics. I don't remember what kind....I think they might have been a type of penicillin...but I took alot of them everyday for like a week and it started going away immediately. I finished the bottle (it was big) and it finally went away completely.
I don't bang shit anymore, but it I know where you are at. That's some weird/scary shit. See if you can track down the symptoms through medical websites-hope the antibiotic bit works for you as they can be fairly easy to get. (don't bang anything on that particular appendage until you get that taken care of...duh)
 
it sounds as if it may be a sterile abscess, which can take up to a few weeks to fully heal. you haven't given us any info as to whether you missed a shot or anything so it's a little hard to give any suggestions at the moment.

but if it's a sterile abscess you will be fine in a few weeks.

Sorry about that, but yeah I did miss a shot the other day but only partial. If it is a sterile abscess is that something I should go ahead and get medical attention for or should I just keep an eye on it?
 
Persistent pain in wrist?..

Question I've been wondering about:

For about two months now I have had a moderately bad pain in my left wrist-it hurts to the touch and also when I put any weight on it, and the tissue is also slightly swollen. I IV my drugs, and at first thought it had to do with a missed shot/overuse of the wrist veins there, but I've left it alone for a few weeks and the pain is getting worse, not better.

It's not red, there's no bump or anything-but it definitely hurts a lot, and the only reason I can think of would be the injecting in the past. Have any of you guys experienced this sort of thing? As I type this, it's kind of twinging-could I have contracted some kind of deep-tissue infection from the last time I injected around there? Just wondering, any replies would be much appreciated.

here's a definition of a sterile abscess :

"An abscess is defined as “A collection of pus in tissue, organs, or a confined space, which is usually caused by a bacterial infection.”

A sterile abscess can be defined as a localized swelling filled with fluid where no organism growth is obtained on culture. "

you shouldn't need to seek medical attention unless it flames up and gets infected. just keep a close eye on it while it is healing.

check out the first page of this thread to have a read about sterile abscess or google it to get an idea of what you've got

Sterile abscesses can become permanent, forming a benign granuloma. These are usually harmless. A bump at a site which doesn't appear to be a local infection could also be caused by hitting or damaging a valve in the vein. The valve can get inflamed and appear as a small lump or area of hardness. These can get better over time, but sometime they're permanently blocked causing the collapse of that vein. Again, a single collapsed vein isn't normally worth worrying about (collapsing several is a different story).

Watch it carefully to make sure that it doesn't get any worse, because that would indicate a local infection. And try to always rotate your injecting sites to give your veins a rest.

Sorry to state the obvious; I think after two months with no improvement you should seriously be considering seeing a doctor. The pain and swelling in your wrist could be caused by so many things and even if we were all MDs on bluelight, nobody can diagnose you over the internet.

So, I told all you guys how last week I injected oxycodone, a partical apparently didn't get filted and shot into my lung? Well anyway, this morning I prepped up a shot of heroin, and luckily only shot half of what was in the barrel because I wanted to see how strong it was. The SAME thing happpened. I got this crazy chemical taste in the back of my throat and all the same symptoms. This time my breathing was manageable thank GOD. So i didn't call 911. I do however have hives ALL over my body. It's getting better minute by minute so I'm not too concerned. I just dont understand how i can sniff dope and oxy and be fine, but now if i inject my body just totally rejects it?
 
^ I've never used a micron filter. On the other hand, I was an IV user for YEARS and this never happened. It happened with the oxy like, two weeks ago. But i assumed a particle had gone through the filter. But today heroin was injected, only this time I had hives EVERYWHERE on my body. My throat began to tighten up like it did with the oxy, but luckily i had stopped mid shot to see how it would effect me. So i was able to wait it out.

I'm no doctor so please go to one if you want advice you can depend on.

What makes you think this is a particle in your lungs? -- I doubt you would be able to feel it. As I understand the particles will get in there if you IV OC w/out a micron filter but rather than cause an instant reaction it builds up over time causing serious problems down the road.

To me this sounds like an allergic reaction. I usually avoid doctors like the plague but if I experienced what you are describing, especially more than once, I would go!

Are you better now?
 
^ I called 911 on myself, and they told me it didn't seem like an allergic reaction, and more likely that a particle didn't get filtered and hit my lung. But after much research, and DexterMeth pointing me in the right direction, I'm almost 100% it was an anaphylactic reaction. I had almost EVERY symptom of it. After the second reaction occurred today I'm almost sure it is. I will confirm this with a doctor and explore my options. Anaphylactic shock is a lot more dangerous than an allergic reaction. Not only does my throat swell, but in rare cases you will stop breathing altogether. On top of that your blood pressure can drop so low you can die.

My symptoms include:
( Onset is within about 30 seconds)

*Tingling sensation in testicles, then spreading to the rest of the body.
*I get generalized hives, and itching ( insides of my arms, my neck and my entire back and stomach
*generalized erythema (redness)
*swelling in my throat ( swelling more and more over time until assisted breathing is needed)
*tightness in my chest
*rapid heart beat ( when the ambulance squad came it was at around 140bpm
*dizziness
*confusion
* as mentioned with the tingling, also a warm sensation throughout the body
*difficulty swallowing.
* anxiety, impending fear of that i was dying.


This is more than enough symptoms anaphylactic shock than one needs to get a diagnoses, but I will consult a doctor this week and get a professional diagnoses.
