Well I have just fucked up BIG TIME.

Just got back from hospital (in for 4 days) - had to have a 1 1/2'' long needle removed from my groin. The fucking thing snapped off right at the end (the entire needle was completely submerged
in my groin).

The surgeons said I was lucky as fuck, as when they removed it it was missing my artery by just a couple millimeters.

Thats it for me, I'm throwing in the towel.

The hospital have me stable on 70mg methadone. I feel SO MUCH better than when I was on subutex. I have no physical WD and no mental cravings. Going to make a real go of it this time - I don't want to die. I've just been given a script from my GP for a regular methadone supply.

So just a word of warning folks - the needle I used had been used just once before, and it still snapped!

Damn.. that would have scared the SHIT outta me if a needle snapped off inside me. And im sure it did you. You were lucky man.. imagine if it hit the artery that wouldn't have been good. I think id "throw in the towel" after that too. especially since your GP is willing to write you a script for the methadone and you wont need to go to a clinic everyday.. sounds good to me. Im on suboxone so i also have the blessing of being able to bring my meds home with me and do as i wish with them.. good luck man and try to stick it out on the methadone but just forewarning you that methadone w/d's are hell. but good luck.

I am so glad you're still with us! That sounds awful! It was 1 and a half inches long? Damn man that's insane.

Was it a used needle? If it was a new needle have you considered suing the people who produced it? That's a faulty needle. If it was used, then that's probably why, and if so I'm sorry that happened to you.

WOW, only used once before? That's *insane*! What gauge was it?

Shit mate, I feel for you. This same thing happened to someone I know. One of those massive green or blue tips from the exchange got stuck inside him.

Fuck groin injecting anyway. Some people at my clinic were talking about it and one of them has a 2p size hole in her groin.

I threw the barrel (still full of smack) away on the floor, tried desperatly to "squeeze" out the needle. After a couple painful minutes, I realised I had no choice but to ring for an ambulance.

Yeah, it was a "long orange" needle - not sure of the guage, but its pretty fat. BY FAR the most scariest thing that has happened to me drug-wise. I'll never forget the feeling that went through my body the moment it snapped - "FUUUUUUUUUUUUCK"!

Fuck man. I'm really glad you're alright. I think its an excellent idea for you to stay on methadone, for a long while. You're right, nothing is worth dying. Just maintain on methadone and try to abstain from heroin. Try and take some time to better your life. Nothing helps me more with my addiction than knowing i am in a good place in my life, even if i'm taking opiates every day.

All I know is thats it for me - I'm never using a needle again. I have ZERO veins left other than my groin, and theres no way in hell I'm ever sticking anything down there again.

is it normal for your injection spot to become sore afterwards?
like.. i IVed my morning dose of suboxone into the crook of my arm and i know i was in the vein i pulled back and registered and didnt inject too fast but its kinda sore when i extend my arm all the way out.. is this normal?

Edit: its not a lot of pain at all.. i can just feel a soreness when i stretch out my arm.

Only had it happen after a slight miss.

Oh wow man, I would've thrown that shot full of whatever on the floor too!

Too bad the needle tips aren't magnetic, then you could just get a magnet and suck it back out. But I don't think they are...alas.

There's a case study however of a girl who had 2 needles snapped off *AND* she declined to have one of them removed!!!

I don't know about that, but I certainly have a hole in my arm right now. I was lucky enough to get an abscess. Probably the most disgusting thing that's happened to me at least... Almost healed now, just a little hole...

If you think you may be missing, try another spot, even if you're registering blood -- that's all I have to say about that!!!!!

stupidly (drunkenly) tried to IV some diazepam the other day, I was drunk and clogged up rig, pushed hard, missed the shot, got no effect. this is in the big vein in the crook of the arm. since then (3 days ago) i've had a smallish lump appear which is very sore. neither the soreness or the lump have gone away and i'm getting a little worried. I used water, citric and valium. any ideas? i'm seeing a doc tomrow so ill show her (but she is fucking thick).

Damn man sorry to hear! Being drunk and IVing definitely don't mix.

Use a heat compress! Hopefully that will help where you missed.

if something happens and you need to go to the hospital you tell them the truth.. thats the only way they can help you.

If this is the case, don't inject. It's better to only inject if you know exactly what you're doing.

I ended up going to the doctor. My foot would stop swelling and wouldn't hurt, but once I went out and walked around for a few hours I become almost immobile. I didn't tell my doctor that from what he was seeing was due to a faulty injection. He told me I have a torn liniment and that I should keep off it until it heels. .. .

Pain around injenction site?

ok, so i didnt shoot up(im usually in CD).however i have a question, and if i cant find the answer here, then i dont know where it is. Alright, so i donate plasma and when the put the needle in my arm it start to swell up to about the size of a half-dollar.and blood started coming out with the needle still in, then they took the needle out and i left. but now like 6 hours later, its still really sore. and i have a sharp pain if i move it to much. I know you will probably make fun of me as much i as did to someone who asked if suboxone would show up on a piss test. So anyway any help would be appreciatied.

I don't know a whole heck of a lot about shooting up, but I think they hit an artery man. Sounds like whoever stuck that needle in missed the veins on their practice grapefruit!

They probably had bad technique. Meaning they hit a valve, poked through perhaps, damaged one of the sides of the vein, etc. Putting a warm compress right after it happened would have helped with the inflammation.

The key now is to keep an eye on it. If it doesn't start healing within a few days, or if it starts getting worse, seek medical attention.
