injection questions

I've been recreationally IVing heroin for almost a year now, and I probably use once a week. I'm wondering what I need to do to stay safe when IVing. I know not to share needles, but im wondering about things like track marks and health issues conerning my veins and other parts of the cardiovascular system. or just any health issues concerning IV use other than sharing needles. im fully aware of those
 
Filter. Switch iv veins. Clean up with rubbin alcohol. Basic stuff like that will make a big diffrnce in preventing infections. Since yer shootn up once a week ya shouldn't be worried bout track marks cuz the bruises leave ina few days after shottn up.
 
^ This very same thing has happened to me multiple times. I sincerely believe at worst it's phlebitis, so just keep applying antibiotics, warm compresses, and some form of anti-inflammatory medication. If it doesn't start to look better in a week you should probably seek medical attention

In my experience, using a rag and warm/hot water helped reduce the swelling a great deal. Hope you're doing better bud.

If you want to be really safe.

-swab area on arm before shot, use gauze pad after

-never shoot a hot solution, Id recommend boiling water (without dope ofc) than cooling it before shot

-Ive read medic professionals say that you should boil ur dope for few seconds before using. Ive never really got a straight quality(correct) answer on this. Most people on here seem to say "don't cook your dope" because it allows impurities to dissolve and might burn some of the heroin.

IMO-if you use a micron filter and can possibly kill some bacteria by boiling for a few seconds, then you should.(I don't know if you can kill bacteria, but some Dr.s/Nurses seem to think its possible) If this is the case, I would heat dope in water, let cool, then draw up through micron filter. If not, do not heat the dope.

I don't mean to derail the thread too much, although i have a relevant question. this is regarding disinfecting injection site, but for IM ketamine. i currently don't have any alcohol wipes in the house, but i was wondering would it be ok to use hand sanitizer? i wouldnt make a habit of doing this of course, it just for tonight. i would rub it in and then wait like 2 min for it to dry. is this dangerous? if so, would it be ok to use anti-bacterial soap instead? sorry to derail the thread but i couldnt find a recent thread,t this was the first one that came up on search. thanks
 
That should be a perfectly reasonable solution! Just make sure to let the sanitizer dry completely(same goes for alcohol wipes) or the alcohol can infiltrate the injection site and you'll end up with a red streak down your arm....

Always use a new needle from the sharpest brand you can find, terumo seems to be the best but see it by yourself.
 
IV using is seriously an art....I thought I could just hit. Uh, I don't think so. Great advice already given, it must be learned. I f'd up so many times....holy hell. But hittiing...magic. Just be careful.
 
Ok so I have been getting better at hitting my veins, so recently I have moved to my handsi register no problem, its just that it hurts really bad to push the needle into my hand. Once I register, pushing down on the plunger doesn't hurt me, like the solution doesn't hurt going in. One shot I needed a tourni because my hand veins were being a bitch so I used one that I couldn't release during the shot. So I kept the tourni on and afterwards there was pain on my vein. It has been a couple.days and now it is bruised ...does this mean I collapsed my vein? What does the bruising mean? Also, another shot I had it hurt sooo fucking bad during the whole time and even when I pulled the needle out , my hand was throbbing in pain. I though I hit an artery because it was a lighter red than usual and there was much force into the barrel (blood). However, pushing the solution in didn't hurt and got me instantly high as I pushed down I could feel the shot hahah.

Am I just pinching a nerve in my hand? Why does it hurt so bad even with ultra fine 31 and 30 gauge needles?
 
Are you reusing needles? I shoot in my hands sometimes and if it hurts to go in I switch to a different spot. The skin there is really sensitive. There are also a lot of nerves in your hand.

As far as the brusing etc, sounds like maybe you just blew the vein? If you aren't able to get the tourniquet off before shooting make sure it's higher up on the arm to put less stress on the vein.

Anyway it's been about 10 hours since I missed a shot of about 20 units of methamp. No signs of redness or swelling. The area is a bit sore when I massage it, and I can still feel something there, but this just may be because of my aggressive massaging/hot compress usage earlier, I can't really say for sure. Hoping that it won't become an issue in the following days.
 
Just keep it clean and you'll probably be in the clear....If it's starting to take a turn for the worse, you'll usually know within the first day....Not always, particularly if you're on a nasty binge and sticking yourself like a pin cushion in multiple places....but if you only did a few shots and you're only having issues with one area and it's not getting worse, you'll most likely be okay!
 
FUCKING missed again... this time it was a shot of heroin, about 80 units. Same arm, too (different vein though)... Hopefully shouldn't be an issue, people seem to miss H shots all the time (I have missed a number of them before will no ill effects), but of course the massaging and compress is hard at work, fml.

I really need to improve my technique... anyone have any references to videos or something very visual that discusses technique, specifically how to enter various veins?

You really need someone experienced to show you. It's the best way to actually learn what you're doing. 80 units is a lot of liquid to miss.. how do you not realize you're missing way before that many units? If it hurts/burns when pushing down the plunger, you are missing. Immediately take the needle out and try again. Also, you should be re-registering mid shot, maybe even more until you figure out what you're doing.

Yes, a lot of people have had tons of missed shots and been fine, but you never know when one will get infected and cause a serious problem. If you keep up like this, you're going to really mess yourself up.
