doesnt sound good at all - but sounds like an infection. I'm not an really an IV user, so I'm sure others will have more knowledge of the issue - but in general, that sounds like an infection.

sounds like you missed your shot an have a sterile abscess. keep an eye on it and go get medical help ASAP if it deteriorates!

i will merge this into the IV complications thread for you to peruse.

Salvaging bloodied shots

Heyall, looking for some sort of confident answer to this question, and I'm sure someone can help me out so here goes..... I'm sure you've all been here. You know when you've got that fatty dose lined up in your rig, coke, dope, both, whathaveyou, and you're trying to carefully ease it into one of your last decent veins, which happens to be a dinky one, and you're doing it slowly and carefully trying to get it just right...pulling back, checking to see you've still got blood, you're still good and all? And say it's all not going too smoothly, you're not exactly nicely situated in the vein, so you're particularly cautious, going reaallll slow.....and your pin fills right up with blood, and it coagulates. FUCK. So, what I've always done, and what I'd like to have a second opinion on, is suck the blood out of the fucked rig with a new one from the plunger side, put it back in the spoon, refilter, and then bang it again. Seems logical enough, seems like I'm getting the shit out, am I right? Is there any harm in this? Bad idea? Any opinion's mos def appreciated.

Peace fellas, be well.

ummm, something that's really hilarious....sort of sad, that I kind of have to share, is that while I was writing this, I started thinking about my mom, haha, and how fucking horrified and heartbroken and probably disgusted she would probably be if she read something like this outta me.

Hahaha, wow

not the best of ideas no, not imo

but filtering the shot, within a reasonable time frame, i'm talking minutes not hours, and injecting again shouldn't be too bad (i'm no advocating this by any means!). not something i'd do personally though.

why not just plug it instead?

Was having trouble iv'in opana er and pulled out a 25g needle and tried to hit my reg spot huge vein. Was real soar for couple days just were I hit. 4 days ltr in swollen all around spot and it's warm. Is this infection or vein collapsing? Any help appreciated

Why choose a 25G needle? Sounds painful IMO.

27's seem like torture to IV with too.

Probably just the *entire* vein trying to repair itself. Just don't fuck with it, and see if it gets better or worse over time. Is it painful? I hear it's inflammed, but if it's not painful you might be good with just a heat compress to help your poor vein along.

I'd use a cotton to filter out the blood if it coagulated in the needle tip. It's never gotten that bad for me though.

In my days of IVing coke and H I remember this weird sort of rash which would appear right after a speedball all around the area I'd use to IV ...I still don't think that had anything to do with having missed some of it since I'd feel the buzz and plus there was no swelling whatsoever ... and the thing is that it would disappear after a few minutes even though it'd be pretty pronounced at first ...I've seen that occasionally happening to other people and yet nobody has been able to give me a satisfactory explanation for this .

Same here.

I believe it has to do with an inactive cut, or something that worked its way into your shot you don't want. That's all I could think of.

The symptoms of an abscess are redness, pain, swelling and localised heat. Regular missed shots should get better with 24-48 hours. When it appears a few days later and / or gets progressively worse, it sounds like an infection that probably requires medical attention. A heat packs can help the body fight the infection and sometimes it goes away on its own, but if it seems to be getting worse, have it seen to asap.

Sterile abscesses do not feel warm, and vein collapse is usually a totally painless process that occurs over time.

Does anyone know where you can buy sterile water? GPZ is not selling it anymore!!! If I cant find it what should I use as a substitute to reduce my chances of infection/bacteria/ potential problems??? Thanks yall.....

soar arm anyone got an answer

yeah did a shot into the regular spot on my arm the spot on the other side of elbow. whatever its called forearm or bicep but anyways i do hit this spot a lot and do have visible marks there but i did a shot into it earlier and maybe an hour later just started noticing the arm is a little swollen near the injection spot and is very soar. could this be from missing? from hitting the same spot a lot? any answers out there? ahh yes it was heroin too. probly a full one cc rig i believe a 28 gauge

Common reaction from a missed or partially missed shot. If you're using the same injection site every time you shoot, you're more likely to start missing more and more shots as scar tissue builds up. As others have said, switch injection sites continually to allow veins to heal (I know it's hard when you have a reliable spot and don't want to waste your dope, but imagine how much dope you'll waste down the line if you ruin all your good veins).

If the area around the missed shot becomes red and inflamed get to a doctor immediately as this is a sign of an abcess, which can lead to a life-threatening infection. It's not common, but if the spot gets worse instead of better, get it checked out sooner rather than later.

the gauge shouldn't matter too much if you are being careful. i use 27's and have no problems. one tip i read in some guide was to not draw out alot of blood once you've fully injected the shot (aka registering at the end). apparently it has a higher chance of messing up your veins.

Some said on BL once and I found it to be true, the more you IV the harder it gets.

That's mostly true, there's a lot of other factors though. All my veins are in working order, and I've IV'd about 4-6 times per day for at least 1 year now.

I'm going to go ahead and merge this into the IV Complications Mega Thread, sound good everyone?
