"dope" can mean anything. the reason i'm figuring morphine (or tar heroin, since thats usually got unprocessed morphine in it) is because it tends to cause a strong histamine reaction, and i know plenty of people who've had their hands swell even from having perfect shots.

take some benedryl, if the swelling goes down, its a histamine reaction, but that doesnt mean there's nothign to worry about.
when it comes to hitting arteries... really, you'd probably know if you hit one, because the register is very unusual. spurting and BRIGHT red are key.

and when in doubt, the ER really is your best bet. its better than losing an arm. keep in mind we're not medical professionals here. really all we can do is make educated guesses based on what we know and the information provided.

i'd hate for anyone to not take care of themselves, but i don't think you need to go to the ER. i've been getting those bumps and painful, itchy, extremely hot sensations (the hot and itchyness in the palms of my hands and soles of feet - the bumps either around the injection site and/or up the vein) a lot lately. i've actually pm'd a moderator who's made comments in the past about it and haven't heard back. ... (you're right -- there's very little when you search for info)

but the bumps and blotchy patches go away (i've also gotten hives, red flushed torso, red puffy eyes) -- i think it's just shitty tar (having just read THIS thread and learning that tar often has a lot of morphine and therefore causes histamine reactions)

i've hit arteries before and the difference is that the swelling (4 me) went in the other direction and it was an even, but extreme puffiness rather than patchy. also it hurts like hell WHILE you're shooting, and i didn't get a head rush -- good or bad. (again, w/these histamine reactions that i think i've been getting i get an unpleasant head rush as you described) --- it would make sense that if you hit an artery you wouldn't get a head rush because the dope would have dispersed itself in your flesh before getting to your brain... ? i think?

but i'd like to learn more about the histamine responses as well. it seems like i'm getting them more and more now - and i can't believe that all of a sudden my connection has started getting shitty dope. (?) -- i wonder if I'M developing an allergy or something?

Doesn't look or sound anything like what I've experianced when shooting into arterys.

Its certainly looks like a histamine reaction.

When I've accidently shot into my femoral artery, or one in my arm - my entire limb tripled in size.
When I've hit the fem artery, it's been so bad that it was so hard to walk and stay conscious - that I just staggered around in public, so If I passed out someone would *hopefully* call an ambulance!

What I'm saying is, if you shot into an artery it really does feel *bad* and you have absolutley no doubts as to what you have done.
 
Put a heating pad on it for 5-10 minutes and see if it goes away. If you missed or hit an artery, the ER is your best bet. People have lost limbs over this...
 
Shot into artery , doctors dont agree

ok so i foolishly injected , half a ml into an artery , i was in the hospital after 15 minutes , acute pain and my hand swelled to boxing glove size in less than a second after injecting.

now here is the catch after waiting 1 hour and trying to convey a notion of urgency to the nurses (who think it cant be that bad since it isnt bleeding (


this doctor comes to me , fisrt she thinks this must be cause of the heroin being poison and all , so she asks here college after a quick look and prod , this college is of the opinion that its cellulitis (an localized tissue inflammation / infection you know when your skin goes red after missing a shot and then bruises or turns to abscess) she tells me if i do nt agree i can go fuck myself cause she is the doctor (then what she thinks is out of earshot) she tellsher collegea to wait til 5 am (it was 1 ) before giving me an antibiotic shot and letting me go , so after this they take some blood to fill in the time which i wasnt cool with i showed the boss female doctor i had no veins left but whatever ) , so now they let me go home with a wet bandage on my hand (just cold water) gave me oral antiiotics and told me to come back tommorow , the doctor who treated me was ok although she admitted having no idea how to handle this kind of situation and it being new to her , the doctor advising her (to treat it like some localized infection ..) told me i had not hit and artery because only doctors can find arteries due to them being so deep , i try to explain to her i did and could do it right now (seriously) , she seemed very malicious towards me and i almost had the impression that she would be happy if my hand got gangrened (she told me it would btw) and yes she did lecture me. so now i have to come back tommorow morning but the swelling hasnt subsisted , my skin is mottled , my hand still feels half asleep although some feeling has come back. Will I be alright this wouldnt be the first time i almost lost a limb due to poor insight at the first aid department..


Shouldnt i be given blood thinners instead of antibiotics?Does an insteantenous infection exist ( i dont think so) , would taking ibuprofen or another nsaid for its anti-coagulant properties help? Im not gonna sleep cause im afraid of putting my hand below my body (it swells a lot if i do)
 
If anything happens to you, i would honestly sue for malpractice. This is horrible on the doctors part, what a cunt.
 
Go to a difference hospital and get another opinion right away. Go to a Dr. that knows opiates.They have them..
 
Go get a 2nd opinion - immediately - then, when you actually ARE being treated for what YOU know to be TRUE, contact a lawyer to sue the first doctor.

I'm not kidding at all, no one deserves to be bitched around by a doctor.

I am very sorry you hit an artery - and I'm sorry you are in pain and that it has swollen up. However, if you don't stop the swelling soon, you are facing long-term damage and I know you don't want that.

As everyone else has said, go to another more knowledgeable doctor. Then, call a lawyer to sue the first one.

There is no other explanation as to why your hand would swell up - unless you hit an artery.

There is a PLETHORA of medical research covering people who have accidentally hit an artery. "Only doctors can hit arteries" has got to be the DUMBEST thing I have EVER heard.

ok so i just woke up and its swollen again , im going back to the hospital and if they dont come up with an alternative treatment im going to a different hospital.
 
Def not Cellulitis

Fuck that Doc and update us ASAP. Sounds like an artery shot to me--tissues do NOT like opiates. Histamine release like a mother fucker not to mention risk of ischemic damage due to particulate matter clogging capillaries.

Slash that docs tires or sue the fucking shit out of her.

ALWAYS filter IV's with micron filters people--get em online for a couple bucks they save limbs and organs.
 
don't go BACK to the hospital, go to a different one, they've already shown that they are indifferent towards what your telling them about your symptoms. Go to someone who will treat your injury properly
 
sounds like she's being predjudiced (sp?) against you because you use drugs. Sorry to say, but some people really believe that drug addicts don't deserve to live in our society.
 
I say get the doc's fax # and fax her a pamphlet/article on Arterial injection repeatedly for a few days in a row. ;)

yes i noticed . was thinking the same thing yesterday , i dont understand these people how can you be so full of hate towards someone you barely know?



anyway shot some more dope today , drank some beers , had a joint , in short did everything except go to the hospital , the swelling has receded to a point where its barely noticeable although this could be due to the fact i keep my hand above my torso during the day i think i will be okay.

captain h feel free to merge this thread and everybody else thanks for your support and advice.
