IN, Indianapolis - Every Tuesday Night - Juxtapoze @ The Melody Inn

not sure when and if i'm ever gonna be doing another show of my own, but i fully intend to use some of the Jux crew if i do

agree on trance, (though some of the harder stuff, like Goa and hardstyle, is okay in my book). i just can't get into most trance, or the guys like Oakenfold, Van Dyk, and such who spin it. ironically, a lot of the industrial-dance/ebm/futurepop i listen to and spin has similarities to trance (albeit the harder stuff), but never has allowed itself to be ruined/de-purified by the mainstream.

I guess I was a lil short on the last one as well. Not only the booking thing. We're out at all sorts of shows. Maybe not all of us but a couple of the Juxt crew will be at most events in the city. We very much appreciate the folks that come out and make the night possible. Keep coming out and tuning in to the internet shows and we'll keep bringin it to ya. <3

that's a lot of the complaint to be honest. "We've" opened our doors to just about everyone in the city to come and play and there's only a few people willing to give back gigs.

I do hate trance though. I mean I can't stand the shit. I honestly feel the trance movement was the final nail in the rave scene's coffin. Go to an Oakenfold show at Talboot and look at the room full of hipsters fucked up out of their heads on ecstacy. That was what the govt was seeing in their heads when they were passing laws IMO.

that can apply to alot of things.it only takes a small group of people to get a whistle blown on the whole thing, even when only the small group is doing something wrong. also ditto to what jin xs said,we'd be doing something and definatly trying to book people if we had the money,if for no other reason but to enjoy it again.sadley, still paying off for equipment, and such.not to mention theres too many bigger people running events every night of the week.when it comes down to it its just everyone networking a big web and using strength in numbers.

I'll be coming to the 16th show, looking forward to some banging electro! (or whatever brad is calling it these days)

mos def appreciate the support man. i call it electro bass...not the only one that calls it that...but just because everyone that plays 4/4 "electro" which is just house music calls their shit electro. i'm not big on genre labels but i don't appreciate everyone stealing the electro label cause it's hip. fucking buy an 808 and then call your shit electro.

Yeah, I can see this.

One of the things that I talked to George about was that Juxtapose could be the place DJs go to do things they don't normally do . . . it hasn't quite happened that way

And I still stand by my assertion that, if the night could continue to push the idea of Djs doing the unexpected, or experimental, or whatever, it'll put that night into the stratosphere.

This.

Plus, I wouldn't be mad if there was a tighter emphasis on D&B/brokenbeat/dubstep/hip-hop. There's room for house and techno, but i can get my fix of that other nights of the week.

i would say to this, however, that Jux allows people who do house, techno, and etc, who don't get frequent bookings on the other nights, a chance to spotlight. for instance, despite her impressive resume, i have barely seen Rebecca Ciaglia booked much in Indy recently other than at Jux. i understand, though, that it's a very delicate balance to please everyone, but on a whole i think so far the night has done exceptionally well at this.

Maybe I should complain this week because they have Paranoid and Shiva going back to back? lol

ummmm.... there isn't really a Paranoid Inc. set going down.

And you definitely won't be getting back to back styles that sound the same.

All three of those sets will be on different ends of the spectrum

Shiva plays 2-step :)
Which I'm sure the house heads will quite enjoy those vibes

You can expect some filth on Swagger and Parallels set

And straight electrobass/step thuggery from Kamikaze and myself

Smooth dnb vibes I'm guessin' from the one like Hollowpoint

And I'm sure Rebecca will be bringing the bangers on the 4 4 tip :)

Plenty of variety steeze going down :)

i would say they're not necessarily pleasing everyone since there seems to be a lot more wanting for the dnb/dubstep peeps. i just think on a whole, the best formula is one covering the most bases for indy's crowd, and for their night, doing a spread with an a-typical, eclectic lineup, i think, has done very well.

also, i would say that you, matt, have done essentially the same thing at Tru, with good results too :-D

So....drawing similarities between Shiva and Swagger/Parallel, makes as much sense as people doing the same for Eurotrash and Matt Porter?

I don't know.... I was actually in the pbr lounge during a good portion of both Eurotrash and Matt's sets having a (drunken) intellectual conversation haha

I actually didn't catch this whole situation with the people who were complaining of the lack of dnb and the verbal after effects of their comments. I had just heard the complaining before :\

But it's all really a pointless debate. We're gonna keep the formula running because it pleases more people than it bothers.
And it was also the basis for the night when we started the new 'management' back in June.

You can count on us to keep bringing you great music from good dj's and producers from Indy and the area. Once in a while we'll throw in the big moves shows and bring in some special guests.
We're also gonna be poppin' off the two room shows once in a while in an effort to show our appreciation for ALL the sound reps in Indy. ;)

Unfortunately, there are gonna be things that are less than pleasing to some of the heads... no way around it.
But hopefully people don't take other people's musical TASTES and OPINIONS personally 8)

We're all here doing the thing for the love of the music. And we've got only love for all the heads that come out and allow us to do what we do for the scene.
Hopefully nobody is misinterpreting differing musical tastes for disliking of people or any individuals.

ez p z and one love to jah and your mother and props to the creator and a big schwing for your favorite valentine

you dirty so and so's

:p

Oh and Matt.... with all the members of Paranoid Inc. being Juxtapoze residents as well (which I promise is just the way it worked out haha) there's a good chance that there's gonna be two dj slots filled by Paranoid Inc. dj's.

And we've gotta put love out for our residents. It's the same as you do with your shows...
Get the G-9 heads on as much as you can and add dj's from other sound crews to help build the appeal and community love feel of it.

So if there's a couple Paranoid Inc. dj's on the line up, it's not a stacking of the cards or anything... it's just that all the PI dj's are hot enough to be Juxtapoze residents as well haha

;)
