IN, Indianapolis - Every Tuesday - Konkrete Jungle

Nice to see something fresh though. With a monthly booking quota of 20 artist, its feed of 240 bookings per year. While sustainable, it may prove daunting to keep it fresh.

1) You could lengthen some time slots and bring it down to 4 bookings per week, 16 per month, 192 per year. That's a 20% decrease.

AND

2) You could also establish 2 resident DJs and cut bookings further down to 3 per week, 12 per month, 144 per year. The residents could alternate, tag, etc as openers each night, or to close out the longer evenings.

If you adopt these options, you relieve nearly half of your booking workload, which will translate to enhanced promotion on line and on the floor.

It also keeps the line up fresher, stretching the available resources over a longer span of time.

I like the 25 lighters booking. Every month should include a few bookings that Jay-P Gold has "no clue" who they are.

yeah follow this guys advice, he's the super promoter who brought you such debacles as PnI3(the 3rd edition, where the djs make and maintain the timeslots and also run the sound!) Jimmi, I appreciate your enthusiasm.

3 of those are residents...

*edit --> 4 people, 3 slots

I am terribly apologetic to announce that 25 Lighters will be postponed until next week due to technical difficulties. >>>stay tuned for updated lineup
peace

Ok, excellent. So that's out of the way then, establishing residents.

I would be hesitant to book a 2am slot per se', on a longer night a resident can cover that time span.

9:30 - 11: Resident(s)
11 - 12: _____________
12 - 1: _____________
1 - 2: _____________

In this format you have it down to 2 or 3 bookings per week.

And it bills a little smoother too.

In this model, you can book out the month with just 2 bookings per week, if you get the whole month booked you can go back and add an extra slot to each week to fill it out more if you desire.

Again, whether you choose 2 or 3 non-residential bookings per night, you want to book the whole month 1 week prior to the beginning of that month.

This leaves you a few days of slack to cue up promo media and initiate digital distribution before the first night of the month. It allows you to promote the whole month in a bundle.

If you want to print media, then you want to book the month 2 weeks prior to the beginning of the month.

Of course, the 2 week option means you need to have next month booked by today.

I think its sensible goal to book the next 6 weeks (12 - 18 bookings) over the next seven days.

Same with your production. Secure and confirm your production for the whole month, tables, mixer, needles etc. Then go back and fill in the gaps where gear may not be available.

Streamline your workload.

you just sound condescending like nobody has put any of these things into question until you bring them up. you just don't get outside of your bubble much, do you? why don't you leave that stuff to the people really involved and just show up and support?? anyways, i'm on the verge of purchasing a mixer to upgrade the present behrenger that turtle has provided. not a pioneer 900 or anything but it's at least a mixer with a tangible fader curve function...so new mixer and another working tech to add to the recipe are on the table ready for the transition. if you care about indy's electronic music scene in any capacity you should really come out tonight and support with insight and creative input instead of "you should do this..." etc. save that for when the night is successfully out of gary's hands and into ours...

Sweet. What's important is that there is a plan in place to acquire/maintain the necessary gear for the production end. It sounds like you would be an excellent candidate to manage the production end.

The only necessary transition is a transition of some responsibilities, and the allocation of new responsibilities.

So, we've covered production and booking.

I've seen that Gary designs some fliers. Also, DJ Shiva and Jackola have design skills. Even Adam Jay and Seth have some design skill. Secure your designer a month in advance, they can achieve the layout and design as bookings are confirmed with relatively low level of stress and alarm.

Multilaterally, you have two primary options for the promo media.

1) Media promoting these nights in general featuring the Konkrete Jungle brand, the Mel, and standard information such as day of the week, address, and resident DJs.

2) Media promoting a specific night(s) featuring everything in option one... plus drink specials, non-residential bookings, and information associated with a specific evening.

With these two options, you always have something to promote, something to communicate the concept.

Again, I don't see any problem with Gary's involvement or position in the matter. Just lessen his workload, and streamline the workload of the night on the whole.

Likewise, Gary should be open to the transition of some responsibilities out of his hands, and the induction of new ones into his hands.

A mastery of fundamentals is key, and is rarely achieved overnight.

the last club night you ran in this city [Posh] was more or less a major flop.

what again do you know about promoting a reoccurring club night?

Until all the fine-print is worked out there will be functional equipment provided by myself. If it is worked out that some minimal compensation can be arranged, i am more than happy to bring out my entire setup every week. (working technics, two cdjs and an actual club standard mixer)
I am tired of shoddy equipment ad am making a stand.
george, thanks for you dedication and team spirit, but hopefully you wont have to fork out personal money just to assure a smoothly ran evening. respect

I actually have a rane scratch mixer in Kokomo still that I just remembered aboot. It needs repaired (I can't remember what the hell was wrong with it at this point) but I'll donate it :D

this one

If anyone is considering the Rane TTM57-SL Serato mixer, I am looking to sell mine. It is in perfect condition.

Awesome, a public outpouring of gear.

Ok, so... who's in charge of production? Who ever may be (or is) appointed, you have a decent list of gear mounting.

1) You have a turntable that needs repair.
2) A decent RANE mixer that needs repair.
3) You also have a working RANE mixer available for purchase.

Further, Synapse_nap has stepped proper with a solid offer for a full rig. That's exactly what we need. And if we can get some gear repaired, it may offer relief to Synapse_nap's gear.

Top Speed is great, and also Seth is a dependable technician for some troubleshooting, repair, or acquisition of parts.

But the reason for this particular post, I left out a key element in a prior post.

Opening the night up to outside promotion groups can be a good relief.

You may or may not already be doing this, I don't know.

I think a SoundNutz Tuesday would be positive. Or perhaps a PhD or iQ Ent. Tuesday would be slick. A Turtle Productions Tuesday, and things of this nature. Just a random peppering.<edit>Side Track Tuesday</edit>

It relieves some booking , aids in promotion, and exposes the night to different methods and channels of promotion.

It also aids in freshness, and give's the night's primary operatives a break from the norm.

You could also stand to learn a lot from the iQ, PhD, or Turtle campaigns.

Worst case, it gives you some extra time to expend on media distribution, future bookings, or programmatic changes for future evenings.

I feel this evening will go well.

wow, apparently this 0010 is the mastermind behind such great things as umm, a bluelight thread talking? I mean it's gotta be the guy/gal who is doing that night, umm, well no. Nobody knows who you are(although several of us have a good idea who it is) yet you seem to have all of this "expert" advice. I'm gonna go ahead and be the guy to ask for your resume, what have you done that would lead me to even consider your advice on how to run a night? I've only been around this shit for, oh, 15 years or so now and I have no recollection of an 0010 involved with anything or anyone.

think the outcomes of last night's pow-wow are a step in the right direction

so now, let git r' done

And there was another mostly somehow effective pow-wow after the show.

Line up and flyer design and things on the way.

Good things are coming.
