IN, Indianapolis - 04.08.10 Thursday - Bassnectar @ The Vogue

Got there and Major Lazer was on. Lasers were cool. Haven’t seen lights like that in a loooooong time. ML was kinda corny. Not really want I expected. Bassnectar came on right after. Bass was loud which I love but just not my cup of tea. We gave it a shot and went to the show. Just can’t get into the whole dubstep sound. We left after an hour of his set.

Major Lazer tore the roof off but was less of what I expected or wanted to see as well. Bassnectar definitely came with the heavyweight hz. Hell I'm a dubstep dj and got bored with the wobble, break, wobble, break, wobble end of it. There was no "vibe" to his set. It was 20 seconds of intro then to the throat. It was a decent show, I tried to avoid passing judgement while there and shake my ass a bit. Was interesting seeing all these people I'd never seen in my life freaking out about dubstep tunes. Kinda made me a lil disappointed in our "scene" locally. That place was packed full of people that paid $20ish a head to here three djs (so pissed about missing Vadim) and one mc. We can barely pull 30 people for 4 djs on a tuesday.

For the "punters" out there. These kinds of shows can't happen regularly if you don't support the local nights so they can make a lil scratch to book these shows. just some food for thought.

This was an insanely fun show. I'm a huge fan of Dj Vadim, Diplo & Switch and I had planned to bolt when Bassnectar came out. I'm glad I stuck around though, his set was compelling and held my interest to the end.

The Vogue was packed and for me as a DJ, it's great to see that in Naptown. Expensive tickets (nearly $30 after service charges), on a weeknight and there was a massive crowd. I have a couple pictures posted on the blog section here: www.culturalcannibals.com
