And not paying a signed and released producer that's driving two hours?! Really?! Even if they agree... you throw them money anyway. You put them on your flier to get attention and bring out heads that wanna see them play. They are the reason people show (dj's as well of course... don't get butt hurt) up to these things. Therefore, they're the reason you're getting paid. Not because you handed out fliers and promoted and reposted a bunch of apparently b.s. numbers.

plur only works if everybody does it..if one side is being respectfull and the other doesnt,well then the hippies get stomped..as an old and partial hippy mentality i learned this the hard way. theres a time to show love and a time to fight,and this isnt one of those times to fight. i figure 30 miles a gallon ave,100 miles,5$ a gallon max ill pitch in 20$ if itll end this pointless shit.anybody else wanna pitch anything?
you could totally include this in plur. Plur is a good thing to keep in your mind to be honest, no part of it is a bad thing. The 'R' is being left out in this situation

1) I've been slumming it around the raver scene for the last 12 years...nothing new there.

how is standing up for a fellow juxt resident 'pointless'? I understand the PLUR bashing is redundant...but the whole not compensating your talent, especially a signed artist such as dave, for travel especially in this situation. juxtapoze promotes local artists from a grassroots level...blast-off is about raving, not artistic integrity.

fuck the PLUR debate. it's all a matter of not putting someone out. ok...the dj gets +10 guest list. that doesn't help him out. i've paid kids from indy GAS money (prob. a lil less with the cost of gas and esp. considering time) to play in florida. indy kids play for free for friends but that doesn't mean they have to spend money to play for a fellow friend out of town. we're all strugglin, but a good faith effort is better than nothing. the mel at least hooks em up with drinks all night. gotta give respect to get it. we all act like idiots but there's still the respect for what we're doing. give it jimmy! you might eventually get some back.

Ultimately, that's the real question/issue here.

I mean, any promoter trying to pawn off their lack of business sense with PLUR is an idiot.
If Dave agreed to a +10 . . . well, maybe he just changed his mind and now feels that it's not worth it. Who can blame him? I certainly can't fault him for doing it, considering. Promoters need to remember that their event is under constant scrutiny. And sometimes a DJ will realize -- or decide -- that said event holds no value for them. Were it a party with 5 DJs, each doing 2-hour sets . . . but it's not. Sometimes playing out for the sake of playing -- or for PLUR, or whatever -- is no longer enough. And no longer needed.
Yes, promoters, it's your party.
It's their careers.
And as I told plenty of would-be promoters pissed that a DJ pulled a no-show: there's never been a DJ whose career has been ruined by no-shows.
Unless those no-shows are because he's dead.
