Do it if you like it and it makes you feel better. If it helps you feel more confident, then that is a good thing. I don't see it as being any different from putting on makeup. In fact, if women were really prone to pattern balding, toupées would be the norm since we are raised to be more preoccupied with our appearance and socially expected to look good. Shitty toupées look ridiculous, but I am sure that no one can even distinguish a good one from the real thing.
It's likely to make you very toupée conscious, I would think, though. You might be awfully worried about getting rough in sports or a bit too tipsy or whatever you do for fear that the thing shifts on your head and reveals itself to the world. Also going to bed with someone for the first time might be awkward if they have not seen it off before.
