Some said I was a bit mental, but they know that anyway, lol. Another I showed one of the main symbols that I have worked on so far and some of the question symbols and other symbols that attach to the main ones and how I could change the meaning of a sentence by adding a different symbol or placing the marking symbol in a different place and he seemed genuinely impressed and said it was very creative.

i think some sort of structure is necessary, because the basis of language is that you can learn from it and apply the same rules to new concepts and words, scenarios etc., you dont want it to just be something where you're just memorising loads of symbols for words

and if i remember correctly, egyptian heiroglyphics as well as mayan/aztec pictographs actually corresponded to certain letters and had syntax.

I haven't considered a spoken form yet to be honest,concentrating on the written/drawn form of it. It will have some sort of sentence structure too. The first couple of phrases that I wrote using the first symbol I created had a form of structure.

It is obviously not going to happen overnight, it is going to be a long project. I will post the main symbol and the meanings as soon as I can, have limited net and drawing skills at the moment, but will get it up soon. Then I will post the first phrase and variations that can be made using the question symbols and the "me, you, him, her" symbols before christmas day.

I am not too worried about all of the naysayers. I believe that I can achieve at least a basic workable language, obviously it wont be initally as complex as current ones, but it can grow.

Also, would people just stop telling me to learn another language instead, I am also learning spanish, and those sort of comments really have no place in this thread. Is like posting what you did on the toilet, a piss or a shit in the "what are you eating" thread :\ 8)

For what purpose?

You do realise that you are going to have to devise a symbol for every single noun for it to be anywhere near workable, don't you?
 
im intrigued by all this now, i was thinking earlier how you could build up and combine symbols. say you have a root symbol (eg. <) that could represent hardness/opaqueness. then this symbol could either be built upon or combined with other root symbols to make wide variety of words; rock, stoic, dark, etc.
 
you are a smart guy naon, the symbols will be built onto each other in a specific format to form words, sentences and phrases.

and PC, why do I need a purpose other than for my own entertainment, go and have a wank, and please explain your purpose for the wank after :|
 
Mugz, are you a Grant Morrison fan already?

I assume you are, because this is right up his street. Morrison's The Filth is one of my fave comics/graphic novels ever.
 
Be gentle with him Mugz .. hes young, brash and naive.. If it wasnt for his stupidity he reminds me ever so much of a young me you know.
I think hes very easily led.
 
He uses that chat up line with all the guys Tranced.. Hes just blinds you with the old hula hoop line so he can worm his way into your grass skirt.

He'll have his wicked way with you and be off home on the bus with your hula hoops in his grubby mitts. The bounder will just heartlessly and callously brush your memory off like bits of used old grass skirt and there will be no wild Boar for supper..

Couldn't sleep so did some more work on my language. I have a few rules that I have created for the language. I guess I'll share them for some discussion/piss take even though I haven't shown any of the symbols yet. Might even get some advice on more general rules that would be needed for a language.

Rules

  • Maximum of 4 separate symbols that can be combined into one symbol, i.e 3 adjoining symbols and the main symbol.
  • Symbols, sentences, paragraphs, are read from the bottom going upwards.
  • Maximum of 4 symbols in one line of symbols.
  • Lines are read from left to right




oh, and in case anyone was wondering, my avatar isn't one of the symbols, it is actually an ancient Inca symbol
 
why not left to right? I know it is down to up which is different, but t will be easier to read if it is say in a 4x4 grid and you read the bottom left symbol up to the top left, then the 2nd row bottom up to the top, then the 3rd, then the 4th. I drew some out and it looked better like that.
 
I know this kid, he's sorta off. One time he tagged along when he was around me and I was drawing a picture. He started doodling a map of an imaginary world with imaginary countries.
I didn't understand why he didn't just draw a picture. He just insisted that he had to explain all that to me and that is what made me realize the corniness of it.

Why don't you just draw or doodle in an original style Mugz?
 
Right, right, right.. And a drawing that was drawn by you with a unique style wouldn't be of your fruits and labors?
 
He';s not "pioneering a new language".

My 5 year old boy and his mate started making a new "code" the other day, they do new codes quite often, I'll try and scan some of their previous atempts in Mugz, might be helpful to get a fresh perspective for you, let you see what you're up against;)
