Hey guys, I used to be a recreational user and would smoke opium every so often. That became more frequent and I eventually got hooked and with the combination of other hardships occurring in my life, it became a habit of solace for me. I've been addicted to opium for about six months, and when I'm traveling I take norco with me since I can't set up shop and smoke; I usually need 6-8 pills a day to get by. I know I'm not THAT deep into it, but my addiction has certainly turned me more into a hermit. I miss being aggressive and pursuing business ventures, and it was when a friend of mine who is like a second father to me had a heart to heart is when it clicked for me and I knew I had to stop.

I'm armed with 18 8mg subs, some 10mg methadones, .1mg clonidine, lyrica, xanax, weed, and blow.

I took 5mgs of methadone so far today and the last time I took any opiate was about 15 hours ago. So far I'm feeling fine, just a little light headed. Any tips on what I should be expecting? I've got a few other friends to talk to about it to, but it really helps to vent on this board as well.

Encouragement and your stories are also appreciated too. :-)

Hey bro, I've been an opiate addict for almost 5 years and I feel what your saying. I've never been on Methadone but would actually like to get on it. I just don't have the money for those stupid ass Methadone clinics. It is just hard to find a doctor around where I live since I live in tiny town Iowa. I know that Methadone is great for withdrawal and getting off opiates. It's not a good long time drug though because it is just as addictive as Heroin. I am prescribed to Subs and Lorazepam and that stuff works amazing! Be careful though when taking Subs/Methadone with your benzos. You'll be high and not really accomplishing with what you said out to do. Stick with the Subs and Xanax and you'll be fine. I'd say about 16-24mgs of Sub a day will be what you need to make it through the withdrawal and most importantly the overwhelming urges to use. You'll be alright man!

damn man, you've got 18 8 mgs subs and benzos for a Norco habit. I would never try to downplay an addiction, but I will just say that you are absolutely fine. I'm currently also detoxing, but an opiate much more difficult than Norcos, and with only 2-3 8 mg Subs

you have all the right tools

Thanks guys, I know my addiction isn't to as hard as a substance as some of you guys, but my brother was addicted to OC80's, railing over ten a day, then graduated to Opana and morphine sulfate after the formula change. It was because of his addiction that I was always scared to take an OC, and I feel incredibly grateful otherwise I would be having a hell of a worse time if it wasn't for his example. My mom is addicted as well, but more along the same lines as my level. I just don't want to go down the same path as them. It feels good to know that I'm finally ready to stop.

You'll be fine you have such a small habit. And plenty of subs. I wouldn't even take the methadone if I were you just use the subs. And I would also avoid using the blow. Just the suboxone and weed if necessary. Good luck. You will be fine.

I am not trying to hijack your thread thegent, just want to share my story and let you know that you aren't alone.

I am also going through WD right now. I have been taking opiates for years now including poppy tea, hydrocodone, oxycodone, H, and most recently, oxymorphone. The last 8 months it has turned into an everyday thing. Opanas especially have destroyed my tolerance (taking on average two or three 40mg opana per day insufflated) and trying to maintain using hydrocodone I need at least 150mg a day in order to function at all. I am not trying to compare myself to those with 2g/day H addictions or anything, but this shit is still unpleasant. It is really starting to take a toll on my wallet and my character. I need to quit.

It's been about 18 hours since my last dose and it sucks. I'm in law school right now so I can't afford to be in bed for a few days. This morning I took some adderall as I need to study, and it is working well so far. I imagine once I start coming down I will feel extra shitty, but at least I am able to get stuff done. I've still got some hydrocodone, poppy tea and kratom left in case I need it but I'm going to try and hold out if I can. I've also got somas, benzos, ambien, GHB (anyone tried using GHB for WDs?), Imodium and vitamins. I am not sure what I am going to do the next few days - I can't miss class and need to be able to study and function.

Having put some thought into it I have come up with two options: Taking lots of adderall the next few days (and lots of benzos at night) or give in and take more opiates. Any suggestions?

i'd take it easy on the amphetamines, really. the best thing to do right now is ride it out with just as many chems as you need to get by but since it's not an option i'd try decreasing dosages of kratom for the time being, starting at say 10 grams a day and dosing it down by a gram a day. kratom's great for this kind of shit and with your tolerance you won't feel much of a rush going at all, just a decrease in WD's. but seriously, i'd only take the adderall if you really need it to study and then only as much as you need, your body's going through hell right now and the last thing it needs is running on lots of dextroamphetamine.

thegent - you're well equipped for this sort of thing but the same thing applies, do not under any circumstances touch the coke. keep it until you're over the hill and then enjoy it for what it's worth. uppers are really contraindicated for this sort of thing. stick to the benzos and bupe and you should be fine, smoking weed to manage nausea and eat at least a little bit if possible

Listen bro , this is very impotant!Do not mix Suboxone & Methadone!Dont even take them close together or you will go into precipitated withdrawl ; i think thats what its called.Basically you will go through hell for hours! In my opinion id keep the Subs & get rid of the rest of the Opiates...If your goal is getting off the shit then Subs are the way to go.18 of them is enough to get you in a worse spot than your already in if you abuse them though.Id start with 8 mil. for 2 days , then 4 mil. for 3 days , then 2 millagrams for 3 days & then like 2 milagrams every other day for like 4-6 days & then id stop.If you really start feeling shitty after a few days after stopping just eat a 1/4 of an 8 mil.

I went to a detox where they used subutex , which is the same as Subs except it doesnt have Nalexone in it & i did a 9 day detox and the withdrawl after detox was pretty much non existant.Sure i felt a little shitty but i think that was more in my head than anything.Anyhow , i was doing a bundle or two of Dope a day , oxy's & any other Opiate i could get my hands on.So i thought even with detox i was going to be hurting but that wasnt the case.I didnt feel great but i didnt have any of the regular withdrawl symptoms either.I could even sleep but after two weeks , i ended up doing a stamp bag & i was off and running again.

I mentioned the relapse because Opiates are hard to get off of and they are hard to stay off of.You really have to want it!You are just getting started so if you kicked now you could save yourself alot of pain & suffering! It was about 9 years ago that i went through that detox & right now im going through Methadone withdrawl...Ive been sick for 17 days now & it seems to be getting worse!Well , for the last three days ive been taking Suboxone strips , so its been managable. My point is it the longer you you stay in this game , the worse it gets!

^ I need to study. I tried studying w/out adderall this morning and it was impossible - it is still pretty hard right now but at least I can stay caught up. My motivation to study is at zero. I have never liked amphetamines due to the unpleasant comedown, and only use them to study when I really need to. So believe me, if I could study without adderall right now I would. Usually adderall gives me a good boost in productivity but it is the only thing keeping me going at the moment. My dosage is fairly low (by my standards at least) so as to limit the strain on my body.

I've only got about 50g of kratom and don't want to waste it today. I plan on taking some tonight and tomorrow when needed. I have absolutely no desire to get high but I am losing my mind knowing the solution to this awful feeling is sitting in an orange bottle in the next room. I am trying to keep the "fuck you, opiate withdrawal!" attitude.

If only opiates (like alcohol and cigarettes) were legal for recreational use. If I didn't have to worry about spending all my damn money and stress out about scoring then opiates could be such a beneficial tool. Like how antidepressants are used to treat depression, prescribed allergy meds are used to treat allergies, I use opiates to treat life. As William Burroughs said when asked why he uses opiates - ""I need it to get out of bed in the morning, to shave and eat breakfast." Using opiates themselves has been great, but all the bullshit that goes along with being a user (finding them, driving to buy them, thinking about them and the amount of money I spend on them) has resulted in the negatives of using outweighing the positives. It isn't worth the lying I have to do in order to keep my use hidden, or the giant amount of money I spend just to prevent WD.

Sorry for rambling, I just needed to vent.

Dude, you're so much like myself it's almost scary.

I have a great job, a wonderful fiancee, and basically the ability to have a strong, fulfilling life should I choose. Yet I'm depressed and use opiates to treat "life" as you aptly explained. I do them for recreation, motivation, depression, anxiety, back pain, mood improvement, ... the list goes on.

The joy of using is wonderful, but all the bullshit and stigma along with it is repulsive. It's a strange dichotomy that all of us are forced to awaken to at some point, and where we go from that point lies solely with willpower.

I haven't found the willpower to "choose" to quit yet, I'm glad you did, but I'm still in the dark, so to speak.

18 Subs is way more than enough to get off of opiates. That would last many people the better part of a year, considering how small of a dose is needed to substitute for other opiates. Just take enough to not get sick and gradually reduce the dose down to nothing... It should be fairly easy since you can go slow.

you can do it

I equate opium to pod tea only a much quicker onset. The alkaloids are similar and hard to stop. Surprised any amount of norcs work. I believe the best is to try and taper and then drop Cold turkey. You have to feel pain in order to really relize this is no longer for you. The easy landing with subs and done is not helping you at all but just prolonging the process. Addy's can help with the lethargy but keep doses low, crash is bad in WD's. Just remember each. The more Withdraws you go through the ups and downs if gets tougher.

Do you guys have any recommendations on the dosages and frequency I should take for a transition to subs, as well as a tapering program? I would love a program to get off of it. I feel really fortunate that I've only taken 5mgs of methadone at noon today and felt fine all day...I feel incredibly blessed that I didn't get so deep into this. What has helped me more than anything is having the serious will to overcome this. I have a dream of playing professional poker and it has been my motivation to get me on track. If I didn't have a goal I would have no reason to quit. I saw how fast my life went by in the last six months when I was using consistently, and I was only operating at about 5-10% of my abilities. Screw that, I'll never get anywhere in life doing that. You guys can do it to, life is too fucking short.

I know I'm in a cake walk of a situation compared to you guys, but I talked to a friend who successfully overcame taking 10 OC80's a day. He was a former pro bodybuilder and he told me that the biggest thing you need to overcome it is the spiritual aspect, really believing in God, which I do, and having true faith that your life will be better with out the drugs. You have to truly want it. It sucks because my brother is still suffering and has never taken the steps to improve. He's a person that never meditates, whereas I do so very often. He has an ego and still thinks money is everything in the world, whereas I've made money and lost it (as has he) and learned the most important thing is what you have inside of you. I have faith in you guys, and I appreciate all of the help that you are all offering. It sincerely touches my heart deeply and I would love to return the favor in anyway possible to you guys. If anyone would like to have a discussion about ego and spirituality, or anything, just PM me.

Right now you're using it because you can still "get away" with it. You're feeling discontent, but that fire really hasn't burned your ass yet. It's incredibly important to meditate as often as you can. Go for walks by yourself, really put yourself out there so you can think. We takes drugs so we run away, meditation is the opposite and will help you come to that realization sooner.

While I was addicted I truly had faith that one day I would have that eye opening experience, and I knew spiritually that I would get a sign one day when the time was ready. If that sign has come for you, don't hold it in, don't numb it; instead use it as momentum. I have a therapist that I talk to every week and she really helped me come to the realization that I need to stop by pointing out the symptoms of an addict and how when I first started using opium I was only doing it once a week, that was my rule, and she reminded me; it honestly got me embarressed to even talk about it because of how my usage progressed over the months. I felt ashamed, and I knew I was going the wrong path.

I'm an addict. I love drugs. I'm always around drugs. But FUCK, I miss that feeling of being on top of the world, that feeling of accomplishment where I know I am truly doing what I was put here to do. Part of reaching nirvana is having that tunnel vision and blocking out all distractions as you do what you were put here to do in this life. I know I was put here to help others and this addiction was meant to happen in my life, so if I can help anyone else, lmk. You're not alone.

Yeah, you're definitely on the right track. What your friend said about having to really want to get past the addiction is totally true.

As for a schedule, the first step is finding the lowest dose that you can maintain on. Don't even bother with methadone, just use the bupe at a dose of under 2mg, the lowest dose you can get by with. Start low-- bupe is very strong. Once you find that dose, just decrease it as much as possible every few days, whatever your body can take. Cut like a third of the remaining dose each time until you get to maybe 0.5mg, then start skipping days between doses. From here, you'll be able to tell when to quit.

Good luck.

I haven't found the willpower to "choose" to quit yet, I'm glad you did, but I'm still in the dark, so to speak.

I also use opiates for recreation, motivation and mood improvement. Not so much for depression, anxiety or pain - which may be why you haven't decided to quit yet as perhaps you benefit more from opiates than I do. For me, the pros of using have been outweighed by the cons.

The more I read about what makes a successful break from opiates I am starting to doubt I have enough conviction to stay off them. I am certain that my problem with my opiate dependency lies not in the actual opiates, but in the money and hassle associated with them. Opiates make me happy. I don't want to quit. But I REALLY don't want to spend this kind of money and time getting opiates and all the worry that goes along with it. I imagine that I am not the first person in this situation. Does anyone have any advice as to how I should look at this?

The rest of yesterday are as follows: The adderall worked pretty well until I started to crash. My whole body felt like it had electricity running through it, especially my legs which were jerking all over the damn place. All the rest of the typical symptoms - hot and cold skin, goosebumps, headache, runny nose, eyes watering constantly, yawning, couldn't sit still, a minute felt like an hour. Somehow words just don't even compare to the actual feeling. The adderall comedown mixed with the WD was fucked. Took some kratom and it helped quite a bit though.

I took more kratom today and, aside from sweating constantly, don't feel that bad. Not much worse than a common cold. My desire to get high is far surpassed by my desire to quit. I am confident that I can stay off opiates for another day.

Great thread. I have been trying to quit opiates all summer... Went from using 90mg oxy insulfinated to 100 mg norcos per day and last month I got the shingles on my forehead and scalp. Unbelievable nerve pain. The er prescribed me 5/325 roxi (only 20count) which I went through in 2 days. A friend gave me 10 100 mg morphine sulphate and I would do about 50 mg a day down to 10-15 mg per day. Went to dr today because my head still hurt and he gave me lyrica and soma and norco. He said try the lyrica before the norcos to see if it helps with pain.

Question: is lyrica effective and can you mix it with norco or soma?

I took 4 norcos and 1 soma about 30 minutes ago just to relieve the pain and get some rest. It seem to be working but it feels like I am taking a step back from quiting. I plan on weening off these norcos over the next 2 weeks. Probably 8 per day for 3 days and then 4 per day for 3 days then 2 per day for a week then 1 per day for a week.

Is this a stupid plan?

Is this a stupid plan?

Does it require 8 norcos to keep away WDs? If so, you may want to spread out the taper over a longer period of time such as:

8 norcos a day for 3 days
6 norcos a day for 3 days
5 norcos a day for 3 days
4 norcos a day for 3 days
3 norcos a day for 3 days
2 norcos a day for 3 days
1.5 norcos a day for 2 days
1 norco a day for 2 days
1/2 norco a day for 2 days

If I could afford it, that's what I would do. If you stick to it, a long and steady taper is far less shitty. I'm feeling like a shivering, sweating bastard at the moment and wish I had the money/pills to taper. I have 6 norcos left and need to save them for a wedding this coming weekend. Kratom is helping though.
