I'm being given MDMA as part of a research study...

also, there are only a few clinical studies of MDMA going on right now in the states and I havent heard UMichigan to be one of them (I used to work for one of the approved ones at Harvard). are you sure they are GIVING you MDMA? it is very very hard for researchers to get permission to do that, and unless you are suffering of a terminal or exyremely debilitating disorder (so that just about any harmful effects of the MDMA will still be milder than what you are suffering now) chances are they aren't giving it to you.

Unless the researcher was telling me lies, but i know of past research projects from this university that deal in ecstasy(mdma) research. I'll definatly keep everyone posted on everything i learn.

BTW, what did you do for the harvard research group... sounds interesting :)

I think its far more likely to get MDMA when you're not sick. The powers that be are more likely to give a study approval if you're showing how MDMA is bad (i.e. hyperthermia) as opposed to show how it might be helpful.

Update...

Well, I took the physical portion of the study. I basically went to a clinic where I was first asked to fill out consent forms and told a bit more about the study. Yes it is actually MDMA that they are giving out, no analouges or anything. I will first get a 45 minute mri and another scan, some kind of chemical one. Then they will give me a caplet of either mdma or placebo. 30 minutes later i get a second mri, then i'm free to just hang out for a few hours. After the consent forms, I was given a few cognitive tests, like "Which word is most like this word?" and some patterns to finish. Following that I was given a big medical history form followed by a drug use history form. I filled both out as honestly as possible. Following this, a psychology student came in and administered a psych profile based on my drug usage and prior psych history. I was then walked to another room where my vital signs were taken and an ekg was performed. After a urine screen, breathalizer, and then finally a blood test, i was taken in for a physical from a nurse. Once this was done, I was free to go, (with my check for 50 dollars). All in all it took about 2 and a half hours, but wasn't bad at all. Everyone was friendly and I really didn't mind the experience. I am scheduled to come back November 16th to get my MRI and such... should be interesting.

Well, thus far, the tests involved a physical (ekg, blood pressure, pulse, blood tests). On the 16th, I get the actual stuff. But I'll keep updated as always.

Give that capsule a nice chew, and you'll likely know right away whether you're getting a placebo. :)
 
My uncle is one of the lab assistants doing this study. It is actually a study to determine the effects of MDMA in suppository form. Just kidding :D

This is very cool. Lets hope it is a decent dose and not a placebo. Who knows, this may actually be a study on the effects of repeatedly giving MDMA placebos to hopeful volunteers. Sort of a posychological bent, if you will =D
 
I've been told by the researchers, that once i do this one... which i will finish (all blood work came back fine), I can do as many as i want (of the studies) as they roll out with them all the time :)
 
In conclusion... This ended up being quite the experience...
I arrived at the hospital around 11, and between then and 12 I was moved to the MRI room. I was administered a drug test, then my vitals were taken. Finally I entered the MRI, which to put it to you bluntly, might as well be a freaking coffin, as it's very cramped. They took my baseline scan, which took around 45 minutes or so. After this I was removed from the MRI machine, and given my pill. Around t+15 minutes I could feel my hands start to get a bit clammy, which typically happens to me. These were no placebo's, after being back in the tube for about 15 more minutes, I started peaking... hard, like jaw smashing, both eyes jiggling seperately hard. The pills they gave us were VERY potent. To the point where my legs were involuntarily shaking and screwing up my tests. I guess I was in the tube for about 2 hours, but the time distortion was crazy, so i don't really remember being in there that long. They kept telling me to breath normal (as I was taking deep deep breaths) when i thought they were saying to breathe deeper. I guess this may have made my scan somewhat difficult to read. When i exited the tube, everyone thought i wasn't doing too hot as my eyes crossed (i had surgery on them when i was a kid to uncross them, but sometimes when i peak to hard, the left one turns inward again). They tried to show that calm collected look, but i could definatly sence their worry. So after I calmed them down about the eye thing, I walked back to the ward where I'd be staying. After a brief tour I was stuck in Jarhead's position... what to do. I tried listening to my music, but would get distracted by, lets see... anything. Essentially i ended up staying there for around 8 hours, because my fucking heart beats too fast (very sensitive to stimulants). But all in all, it was worth my time, as I ended up with free MDMA (from the fucking government) and got paid quite handsomely with a grand total of 225 dollars. Would i do it again? definatly
 
shit damn, that sounds intence, how tight was security and the like, seeing they have PURE mdma at this uni, surely it would be like fuking prison around that area?
