Illegal Alcohol i.e. Moonshine or White Lightning

Everclear is illegal in the state of California, but a friend of mine smuggled some in from Oregon a little while ago...good stuff. =D
 
PA is weird thats all. You can't buy liquor anywhere but state shops, or beer anywhere other than beer distributors.
 
you guys do know that EVERCLEAR is basically moonshine right ,its 190proof and it legal in maryland

so yea i have had moonshine is the same as grain alcohol ,i have seen alcohol made from corn ,EVERY BODY THAT DRANK IT TREW THE FUCK UP WITHIN 20min

i have ha moonshine and i really dont get people who enjoy drinking that strong of a liqour straight,and there are plenty that do,to me all liqour basically tastesthe same IMO

Most strains die at around 8-10% concentration. The Samuel Adams company has, over many years of selective breeding, developed a strain that can tolerate... just barely... 25%. And as far as I know, that's still the world record.

I don't doubt the ingenuity of prisoners. But we're talking about basic chemistry and biology here. And they're not about to beat professional brewers at their own game.

I have never made julip and have only tasted it because getting shty drunk in a pod of 126 inmates some with a life sentence and a liking to young white guys as I was. I don't have a clue as to how they make it I use to smuggle rice out of the kitchen by passing it threw the tray window when I worked in the kitchen and the crap they would end up with would produce a blue flame if you lit it onfire. The bags the milk came in that they served in the chow hall was used as a blatter and they would burp it every so often. Kept hidden under the bottom bunk. The guards would overlook it as long as the lt or sgt weren't on the rock. You could walk past the cell and smell it plane as day.

A peanut butter jar full. Of that crap was $$$ worth of commissary.

And as far as the inginuity of prisoners the prison I was in found 2 fully functioning meth labs hidden in some of the damndest places in the 2 years I was there.

Back when I was still living in the southeast(Alabama for the most part, a few years in Tennessee as well), illegal alcohol was still very much around. Many a time have I had moonshine, and it is one of my favorite liquors.

Makes me miss them good ol' boys...

No. It's impossible to get 95%+ abv using the same distillation process used to make less potent alcohol. Moonshine is made differently

Effect-wise it's pretty stimulating, but short-lived. One shot would get me drunk almost immediately but i'd be sober within a few minutes unless i kept drinking to keep the buzz going

It's tasteless and odorless.. tho a lot of batches i've come across smell slightly of methanol

I prefer it over legal alcohol for sure. It's really pleasant to drink compared to most varieties of ethanol, especially with a bit of flavoring added and it has fewer side-effects than store-bought alcohol.. I've never gotten a hangover from 'shine

I don't know what this milk jug business is tho. I guess some people enjoy plastic with their booze.. Legit 'shine comes in mason jars

Yes, it shows up from time to time. Sometimes it is actually quite delicious, with various flavorings added.
 
a friend of my had bought some white lighting from a guy he knows, he gave me a shot and, man was it strong ! you could feel the liquor as it went down into your stomach, and afterwards you had a good warm spot in your stomach, it felt real nice
 
Moonshine is great, my favorite way to drink, right behind a good IPA or stout.

I sort of cheat though, I just use a homemade still on cheap storebought vodka.
 
All over tn been out in nc for a yr and only had it once. The shits awesome when u got a jar with a buncha peaches. Sketch to make cuz of the tax they will hit u with
 
My grandfather use to make moonshine back in Greece & when I visited several times when they were alive & I was the ages of 11, 13 & 15, he would offer me some to drink & him & grandma would also give me some home made wine to drink at the dinner table, I miss & love them very much, not because of the alcohol but they treated me with respect & love. Gotta love the European way............:)
 
Ive had moonshine before and man was i fuckin trashed haha but me and sum homies brewed our own beer before which was pretty cool and when ur finished it very satisfying and relaxin to just chill wit tha homies drinkin on sum brew you made
 
^yea, it seems like homebrew tends to get your 'buzz on' faster

i had some recently that was 7.5% abv and i was trashed after 3 bottles.. nice quality stuff tho. I didn't get a hangover ever from it either
 
In Texas I've had neighbors that made booze, but I've never seen it sold. People still make shine pretty often here.

Where I'm from is Appalachia though, Kentucky originally but I've been all over and have family all over there. Moonshine is totally normal there, in the more rural areas everyone buys and drinks shine, it's great stuff. Barely has a taste or odor, strong as hell and very smooth if you know the right people.

I've seen people sold some toxic shit as moonshine before, so I highly recommend not buying any unless you know the person who made it pretty well. Shit can be literally poisonous.
 
I am in Australia, not the US, but I have encountered moonshine and other homemade high strength alcohol concoctions numerous times over the years. It seems to be a small time thing that an individual or small group of individuals produce for their own consumption. The people involved in this tend to be middle aged or old people with European backgrounds. Grappa seems to be a commonly made homemade spirit. I tend to find this stuff, particularly the "moonshine" or "pure alcohol" has a surprisingly mild flavour but you know its strong when that warmth hits your chest, definately gets you blind quick. I used to hang around with a dude who was from the Czech Republic, his dad used to distill this clear alcohol that my mate always used to bring a hip flask full of it out on weekends and claim it was "pure alcohol", it tasted like vodka that had been watered down like 75% with water but my did it fuck us up. This shit didn't rip your stomach up the way a lot of shittier homemade alcohol does either.

Every so often I hear of some cheap, homemade gut rot bourbon or whisky doing the rounds for about half the price of a legit bottle of spirits. Personally I have never bought it but I have drank it and it is rank and wreaks havoc on your stomach.

On the whole I would say there is relatively substantial illicit spirit production in this country but the motivation is rarely profit.
 
have had the pleasure of trying white lightening many times. you are one hard mother fucker if you can shoot it straight. the more/most popular thing to do would be let a peice of fruit (strawberry, peach slices, apple slices) soak it up and then eat the fruit.

i have eaten white lightening soaked strawberries and shot it straight. if you have ever shot PGA, multiply that by 100 and you have the feeling of a straight shot of white lightening.


the bottles i have seen are either a plain mason jar or a tall 5th bottle with a lightening bolt on it.
 
I make my own lightning, kinda a pet project of mine. I have a 5 gallon pot still that I distill a 20% mash in to yield about 4 quarts of 120 proof after you mix the highshot with the lowshot. I have made a variety of different liquors over time, the easiest is sugar liquor though, tastes sweet too!
 
I had a friends father who made legit moonshine in the basement. It was good and fucking hella strong. I would say it was easier to drink than legit 195 proof everclear.
