I just got Paxil as an anti-depressant and I'm pissed. I don't want to start taking them, because i have heard they have bad side effects, but i really DO need an anti-depressant. What side-effects should i complain of to get a better script?

Complete loss of potency and sex drive for some...
For me, it did nothing to my sex drive, but made orgasms amazing... It's a toss-up.

Tell the doctor that you are having sexual side effects. That is the worst thing that could possibly happen to anyone so I think they would understand.

Im in high school(in come the flames) so If I complained of bad sexual side-effects I think i'd get nothing more than a big lecture.

Why dont you try taking them first to find out if they give you any strange side-effects and go from there. Most anti-depressants have side-effects, but not all people are affected by them, it depends on the person.

you can also try the paxil cr (controlled release). I heard that these are a little easier on you...

You might try Celexa. I can't speak for statistics, but I barely ever got side effects from it and it worked GREAT.
I wish I was still taking it...
FUCKING ZOLOFT

There is also BuSpar.
I'm about to dump Pax and start taking it. The Pax has just made me wayyyy tooo tired lately.

yes, buspar is an archaic anti-anxiety pill that doesn't work, and usually makes things worse.
the time release paxil is not easier on you.
complain about GI side effects, say it makes you to nauseous and you just can't handle the nausea. you can also mention the loss of limbido, say you have a girlfriend so you need it. but i would really just complain about the nausea, it worked for me. i can't take any of the SSRI's (paxil, prozac, zoloft etc) because of nausea. but if you need to go the SSRI route then try the new lexapro, it's the new celexa with less side effects (although it still made me nauseous) and didn't work.
you can ask for a tricyclic., which will help levels of serotonin and norepinephrine , but it was the first anti depressants made (besides MAOI's , trust me you don't want to go there) and side effects are usually sleepiness and sexual dysfunction...back pain and tremors less common...so i wouldn't go there.
what's best for side effects are wellbutrin, which should be taken in the morning because the side effects will be like caffeine effects.
but i would most reccommend REMERON which has no sexual side effects , no GI side effects, but will make you really sleeply so it should be taken at night, ohhhh and it will make you HUNGRY as hell, worse then pot munchies i swear, but they wear off in 2 weeks. and you can get the SOL tabs that dissolve under the tounge and taste like oranges...he should start you with 30 mgs then go up to 60 mgs after 2 weeks or so. it effects both serotonin and noradrenaline. and the soltabs work faster then SSRI's if you need quick relief, check it out here

definitely don't take the paxil, paxil is developing quite a bad buzz, they're saying it's addictive and causes withdrawal if you need to go off of it.
so to sum it all up, say it makes you too nausous so you need a pill that doesn't cause nausea. say you've heard good things about REMERON and you want the dissolving tablets because they work faster then the regular ones.
hope this helps a little.
i've been on every single class of anti depressant out there. and still fighting the battle.

Hey, this topic belongs in the HEALTH FORUM, where we virtually specialize in antidepressants. If you do a search there for 'antidepressant' you'll find a whole lot of info on a variety of antidepressants, their side effects, and their benefits.
Are you just depressed, or do you anxiety, or other mental health issues as well? If possible, please describe what symptoms you are suffering from.
Did you dr give you any explanation as to why he prescribed paxil?
