There was a disused missile silo for sale in the US, that was sold for mere pennies. It could have held a HUGE community, including a shopping centre, (which it was originally advertised for) a hospital and a town centre. Albeit, over several floors. In the end it was filled in because of water ingress and the fact it would have taken too much money to retro-fit the building to be of any use.

But, who wouldn't have liked to own a missile silo, ultimate Bond, spinning on a chair stroking a cat saying "Yes Mr Postman, the post IS late.." Before shoving him into your shark pool.
 
Id like to own a boat. Sail the seas and all that.

Actually, as good as an island would be, I think actually I might prefer to sink some money into researching a machine -- preferrably small, portable and inexpensive -- that would measure in real time the concentrations of endorphins and exogenous opioids in the user's bloodstream. The idea being to help with an opiate detox, by tapering down the dosage at exactly the same rate as the endocrine system is ramping up endorphin production. This should be the most painless way of detoxing -- I mean, you have to be in some pain in order to start making endorphins again, but you could at least keep it to a bearable level. Putting all the shonky "rehabs" out of business might even be better than an island.

I am still having the mansion with the secret passages, though .....
