If you found out your child smokes cannabis..

yes, your post was gay. dont be a nazi with your kids, or there just gonna rebel. trust me im 17 and im doing the same thing with my parents because there telling me i cant smoke a harmless plant

i didnt say i was gonna be a nazi, and you're 17 and obviously a moron. dont tell me how to raise my kid. i was a kid and did the same thing you are talking about so i believe i know how to handle it with my kid. the way you're going with your attitude you will be just another stoner slacking ass kid with no job mooching off your parents. get a life son
 
i guarantee if you kick her ass she'll be more likely to continue anyways

you could try something halfway rational and explain to her the pros and cons of marijuana use

I think I can give you advice on how to raise your kid. Like don't hit them. If you beat your kid, you're an asshole. And hurting them will not make them stop smoking, I guarantee it. If you want your kid to turn out well give them love and understanding and information and safety, not anger, abuse, mistrust and misinformation.
 
I would punish them if they were younger, over 18 or close to it then there good to go as long as there lokey and not blazin in the house

im not gonna beat my kid to a pulp but you can damn sure bet i will whip them. how does that make someone an asshole? all these time outs and stuff doesnt do shit. my nephew was raised this way and he is a little shit head. i will talk to them and not always resort to whipping them first off of course. i think you are talking about abusive parents there is a difference. and dont show anger? sometimes you have to

disciplining your child is not the same as abusing them.

I don't think anger is a positive parenting tool. It is wrong to be violent in my opinion, but it's even more horrible to be violent towards a being that is innocent and defenseless. Beating a child is completly unproductive in raising them to be a good person. If you can't solve a problem with your kid by talking to them then you need to learn better parenting skills.

There are more methods to parenting then "whip them" or "time outs and stuff", you should read up on parenting and consider the effects your actions against your child have on their mental health and their future. I also guarantee that beatings are pretty much never productive in making a kid not use drugs, and they decrease the trust in the relationship. If my parents had beaten me I would have used more drugs and been more reckless in my use.

you people all seem to be confusing discipline with abuse. every person i know was spanked as a child, it's the way you do things around here. not a single one of them is a murderer, rapist, molester, or even a drug addict. hell, most of them don't even use drugs.
