If weed isn't a "real" psychedelic how do you explain arabesque/hindu art?

But you've been talking bhang for the entire thread - you do realise that bhang is a drink right? I believe it's made with water which isn't even that good a way of getting high from cannabis leaves anyway. It's no good posting a video of someone in India smoking a blunt and then saying "I've shown Ismene this time". Unless you've now moved onto saying Hindus all sit round the temple smoking blunts - and I've only heard of the Snoop Dogg school of Hunduism doing that.

Bhang is made with milk, spices, ghee & cannabis. Couple of recipes here: http://www.holifestival.org/bhang-recipes.html There are other recipes, they all use milk & tend to use ghee (butter) too, so they're quite effective.

How do you explain the Holi festival if they aren't all high?

Charas is quite popular too, particularly in some Hindu sects. I doubt you'd catch many smoking weed with that much quality hash & bhang around, a snoop dogg blunt probably wouldn't even touch the sides.

Just search out some "sadhus", different level to snoop dogg.

There's something called a bhang golli which is just ground cannabis and water.

And as I've mentioned, sadhus are ascetics which means you don't often find them with enough money to build ornate temples costing millions of dollars. I'm sure you can find guys living in squalor smoking blunts - the question is whether when you walk into the richest, most ornate temples in India you find many baked Hindus. Wine is a sacrament of the christians - but it's not often you walk into a cathedral and find the Archbishop and his congregation pissed out of their heads.

He's not interested in searching, reading, or learning.

Can you try and offer something of value to the thread instead of just tiresome personal abuse? doldrugs/stanleyjobson/erikmen or whoever the fuck else you are?

I'm sure you're right, no true Scotsman would ever use drugs.

Not today you wouldn't. But HISTORICALLY yes. The highest caste in India is the priestly caste. This is the caste that has historically been involved in ritualistic drug use.

I think it's pretty blatantly obvious that drug use has played a significant role in the development of Hinduism. Whether it's responsible for the art style... I have my doubts. Mostly for the reasons which have been brought up in this thread--the likely identity of soma as ephedra rather than amanita, and the presence of underlying visual constants without regard for drug use.

Nope, I don't have the delusion of having shown a blind and deaf man anything, the videos were just for the lulz :)

Well, bhang is a paste of cannabis, butter and spices, so no, it's technically not really a drink, it's the name of the paste, untill it's mixed into drinking youghurt, as an example, then it's a drink, called bhang lassi. (Lassi means drinking youghurt fyi) But you would know all that if you had read the wikipedia page on bhang I already posted in my first post. But you're not really interested in learning something new, or having a conversation, are you? you just want to be right. Fine by me, you're right! Everything I said was wrong, I renounce it all.

And by the way, Were do you get the idea that I shouldn't know that bhang lassi is a drink? I've drunk plenty of it when I've been to India, and it's quite effective actually ;)

Sure, as soon as you stop making false statements you're too lazy to do a cursory google search on.

I think you both need to chill out and drink some Bhang or something. ;) You can conduct this discussion without insulting each other.

Second paragraph from the wiki page you claim to have read:

It is also available as Bhang goli (pill) which is just freshly ground cannabis with water. Apart from this, sweetened bhang golis are also widely available. These are not considered a drug, but a traditional sleeping aid and appetizer. Bhang is also part of many ayurvedic medicinal preparations. Bhang powder is available at ayurvedic dispensaries.

How do you like them apples? It's got cannabis in it and it's "not even considered a drug". Do you see the point that bhang might not be solely about getting baked? Open your mind real wide and try and grasp that. It's no use thinking "Well it's got cannabis in it dude so that can only mean they get baked like me and my buddies on a friday night". I'm asking you to try and think beyond that. Can you try that for me?

Don't just search youtube for another video of an indian bloke smoking a doobie.

Ismene, bhang has a long history of religious use and when intended for immediate consumption it's combined with multiple high fat liquids so it's obviously active. All of that is backed up by sources posted in this thread. Are you still holding to the idea that there is no widespread cannabis use in indian culture?

I've actually been to Jaisalmir, and I did drink Bhang lassi in the government shop. And then we went out in the desert on scooters, we stayed on the road of cause. But that's along time ago now, it probably changed a lot.
