If I cant get my HS deploma, can I get a GED to replace it?

^Once again, I sucked at highschool and still would. I would almost definately fall into alot of the negative behavior patterns that I was once in if I had to attend it again.

Yet I am working at a high level in college.

I used to live in California too and you don't want your GED. You want to take what is called the California High School Proficiency Exam.

If you pass this exam you will get a diploma that is exactly the same as achieving a high school diploma. This is how I tested out of school when I was 16 and felt high school was a waste of my time.

If you get your GED it isn't legally the same as a high school diploma whereas the CHSPE is exactly as if you'd finished school and graduated.

Staying in high school makes you a sheep? Sorry, I don't think so. If you have good teachers, then stay at your high school. You don't have to "strike out on your own" at the age of 16 or 17 just to prove you "aren't a sheep." That is retarded. Everyone needs mentorship and guidance, along with a certain amount of structure. Whether you are in HS or CC, it doesn't really make a difference. You'll read the same books and do the same math problems.

The OP seemed to be saying that a GED would be better because he was feeling so crappy during the school year. I think this might be a good idea, because sometimes we need a break from all the insanity to just reorient ourselves. However, it would be a mistake to think of the GED as an "easy way out" of getting the HS degree.

The reasinong behing not graduating aint AT ALL to "not be a sheep." It aint got nothing to do with nonconformity, wanting to rebel, etc. that was not what i was gettin at at all. Dont take it the wrong way. when i said sheep was referrin to the ATTITUDE of society about not finishin highschool. not necesarily the actual act of goin to school or not. if you dont go to school, it shouldnt be about other people, or nothing but you and what you want to do. my point is, who cares what people think, dont listen to nobody but yourself and what you know is right for you. when i say dont be a sheep, i dont mean dont go to school. If they went to highschool and college, of course they will think you cant do it without either of those things. That dont mean that you cant. it just means they cant.

The point is with the determination and will to succeed you will do it, diploma, degree, GED, or not.

For example, warren buffet, the CEO of a huge investment company, is looking for his replacement and said specifically that he couldnt give 2 shits whether they graduated from highschool or if they have a degree or went to college at all, he just wants someone who can do the job.

Everyone has degrees nowadays. people think that means that they are necessary, when in reality, the more people that have them the less they mean. just like if the government printed too much money it would be worth nothing. degrees are starting to mean less just like the SATs.

if you wanna go to school, do that too. whatever makes you happy. But just dont let nobody try and scare you into doing what you "should" do, cuz if you dont do that shit for yourself and yourself only, have fun with a life of regret full of shit that you never really wanted. dont get pushed around, dont believe the hype. whatever you decide to do with yourself put your heart into it and believe in it and make that shit happen, and you dont need no fuckin piece of paper to be happy in life.

yeah but i mean anyone who has that sort of attitude, i wouldn't want to work for anyways. there are always people out there that don't see GEDs as a bad thing. it's proof that maybe this person screwed up, but they got their shit together. some people see that as someone who is more experienced in life.

I don't really thinks there is much of a difference between a high school diploma and a GED in terms of job prospects. However, just having a high school diploma or GED these days isn't going to get you a good paying jobs in most cases. As lacey said, simply having an undergraduate degree these days doesn't mean much.

I think I get what lacey is trying to say, and if I do, I agree. You should go to school because you're interested in it, not because society makes you believe that you'll become some sort of fuck up if you don't. Many people like to think that if you don't have a degree or high school diploma, then you're some illiterate dumbass, or that you don't have an interest in learning. They never stop think, well, maybe a school environment for learning isn't what suits this person, therefore they prefer to learn another way, or whatever their reasons may be. I mean, if you want to go school, then by all means go, but do it for the right reasons. Just the same, if you decided school is not your thing, then don't force yourself to go just to live up to societies expectations. You should live up to you're own expectations and do what makes you happy. It's your life, you have to live with decisions you make, so you should do what you think is best for yourself, not what society thinks.

yeah man. what 5 courses while in college but not graduated highschool yet? you confused me.
Though for those considering the ged is extremely easy, i think it is on par with a tough middle school test maybe.

A GED isn't as easy as you think it is to get. So a GED is basically a test that you must pass (or 5 tests to be exact). There are classes to take to prepare you for it, of course these classes are optional. If you're smart, then you can skip the classes and take the test. But I don't believe you are very smart since you said so yourself you haven't been paying attention in school and have abused ecstasy. Take the classes, study, and get your GED. But don't expect it to be so easy....

I have a GED and I have never had a problem getting a good job.

There are plenty of people out there who have to leave high school for reasons beyond their control(including me), should they be punished for that? no

Is there a chance you will have a harder time finding work? Yes, but employers do look at other things.

Will you have a harder time getting into uni? I don't know, I didn't have the resources to go and I didn't want to be in debt with horrible student loans.

GED is fine. My girlfriend and I were in senior year of high school together - I graduated, and she decided to drop out for similar reasons to yours, mostly lack of motivation, not liking high school, etc etc blah blah blah. Basically just general needing to grow up stuff.

She got her GED, applied to the University of Tennessee with me, we were both accepted, and now, 5 years later, she's got her bachelor's degree in social work and is working on her master's degree. The only reason GED's have a negative connotation is that very often, you can get a feel for what a person MIGHT be like based on it - they MIGHT be unintelligent and unable to handle even high school, or it MIGHT mean nothing, or it might mean that our education system does a very poor job of managing temporary maturity issues.

Those of you who have gone on to be successful in jobs or in degrees or in whatever other way you've become successful, think of how many people you knew, or perhaps even yourself, were unmotivated and disinterested in high school, and as a result, unmotivated about education in general. It wasn't because you were stupid or incapable, it was just a temporary maturity issue that you grew out of soon after. Automatically labeling people that deal with that temporary issue by dropping out and getting a GED as slackers and losers who will never amount to anything is just ridiculous. Expecting a teenager to have the foresight and emotional maturity of an adult is just as silly as expecting a toddler to have the emotional maturity of a teenager. It isn't a flaw in the person, its just the pace at which they develop.

Hi, sorry to hijack the thread a little.

Does anyone know anything about something called a High School Equivilency Test? My Uncle was telling me that if I'm going to drop out, to look into getting one of those instead of a GED. He said they are a bit harder, but they have more respect to go with them because, unfortunatly, a lot of people associate GEDs with loser/dropouts.
