Calling someone addicted to drugs a 'drug addict' is not discriminatory behaviour. I can see how it could be dehumanising though. Perhaps calling a drug addict a "junky", as I originally said makes use of discriminatory language and is similar to words like "nigger" and "faggot". I don't think I've ever been called a filthy drug addict, but I have (on literally one occaision) been called a 'fucking junky cunt'. For me, I don't think that discrimination against drug addicts is as big a social problem as discrimination based on race or sexuality; your introduction of this into the topic is a bit of a red herring.
 
Wow I read this entire thread it has brought about some good discussion. Alasdair being a libertarian my only agenda is freedom and the truth which is why I started this interesting discussion. I will say if someone finds being called a drug addict derogatory than it should be banned under all logic used here. Yes I this question came to me when thinking of the very logic of this sites policy, and to be quite frank I am good with it. I guess it is much like the war on drugs just keep banning until utopia but maintain the facade that freedom of expression and liberal principles are paramount. Faygo, Jamal, homo, gay(intermittent), spear chucker, chink, fudge packer, dune coon, towel head, rag head, etc I could fill a thousand words here that are banned in this site. I am good with it as in this is a private site and do what you will, and tbh allowing a thread like this that points out political/ sociological hypocrisy shows at least some tolerance for free expression. All that being said nobody in 2017 that is even slightly educated is genuinely racist and by that I mean an insignificant portion of the population may be but I hardly think it is a reason to promote a pop culture political agenda. 99.9% of people find the word nigger abhorrent I just had to autocorrect like 3 times just to use it. Safe spaces are barely a good idea for women that are victims of violence much less adult children, Junkies, all the rest of us. Okay so now cue a alasdair I told you so.

Regardless of what I just said the larger philosophical point of this thread stands. I think it is something that isn't easy to be right or wrong with, but like assholes we all have opinions. ?

dawg, word. in linguistics, it's called 'code-switching'. ghetto speak has tenses and forms that english lacks. a lot of it is about identity and belonging, but there's more to it.

1. He ø runnin. Standard American English (SAE )= He is running.

2. He be runnin. SAE = He is usually running or He will/would be running.

3. He be steady runnin. SAE = He is usually running in an intensive, sustained manner, or He will/would be running in an intensive, sustained manner.

4. He(’s) been/bin runnin. SAE He has been running–at some earlier point, but probably not now.
Other examples: I been knowing her. SAE = I have known her.
About eleven o’clock he been eating. SAE = . . . he was eating.

5. He BEEN/BIN runnin’. SAE = He has been running for a long time, and still is.

I literally just joined this site to say that after spending a good half hour following and researching his activity on this site in disbelief, i came to the conclusion he was trolling people for attention and response. That conclusion quickly came to the realization that it was no act.

it's a lot easier to label something as "political correctness gone mad" and the person saying it as a "social justice warrior" than it is to debate something on its merits.

BTW bourquetorque, wandering of topic is usually a habit of intense debate. But you can usually tell where one thing lead to another unless the person writing has jumped around too much in their head.

I don't get why you guys hate off-topic so much. If you meet a friend to discuss a project and she starts giving you a blowjob with a twist, are you gona tell her she's wandering off-topic? Staying 'on topic' is a matter of continuity, relevance to the discussion at hand - and not waffling a bunch of random crap that derails constructive discussion.
The logic behind it is generally not too difficult for most of us to grasp.

Nice example of derailing a thread though.
Fortunately this is a very mundane and pointless thread, so i'll forgive you (this time). ;)
