Bluelighter
Note: I have two black cats.
Well, I'm washing dishes tonight, and I think I see one of my cats out of the corner of my eye going behind the trash can. I think, "Man, that's a small place for the cat, but I don't want her back there." So I rap on the pantry door beside the trash can to scare her off.
Nothing.
In fact, there was no cat going behind the trash can. I look behind me, and both of my cats are well outside of the kitchen, reclining the way cats do.
I swear, I almost shit a brick. Now, I've seen many a strange sight out of the corner of my eye that turned out to be a figment of my imagination. But nothing like this, with my eyes clearly open and seeing it. I saw a cat--black, tail, sleek fur, and all. It may have been out of the corner of my eye, but I would have sworn upon my grave that it was a cat if I didn't know otherwise.
Now, the plot thickens. My Mom has also seen a black cat in her room--but she *never* lets either of our cats in there. Yet she's seen one in front of her door, that disappeared when she tried to get a good look.
Now, being raised in a scientific tradition, I hesitate to call what I saw a "ghost", because that's a necessarily loaded term. It might have been a ghost. It might have been a figment of my imagination, or a hallucination--I haven't gotten much sleep the past few days. Whatever it was, I have no explanation for it, and it was the one of the creepiest events of my life.
I cannot emphasize enough that this image--or whatever--looked solid, flesh and blood.
Strange days. I don't think I'll sleep well tonight.
