Hey guys still pretty new to this site to bare with me lol. I have tried seaching for help but have not really found the answer, well kinda did but were all diffrent. Due to my friend losing his sorce of geting oxycontin here in brisbane with his last pink 20mg oxycontin he is after iving it. He knows everything on iving the dangers and everything els but from all the fourms he has looked at some say to cook it some say dont. Its hard to know what kind of oxy they are talking about ir like endone or er like the pink 20s he has. Any help on this will be awesome thanks

Hi there,

We need to know what sort of oxycodone your friend has (is it really your friend or you? If you, please say so). It's going to be ER if it's Oxycontin - the big question is whether it is the old OC formulation or the new OP formulation. If it's an IR oxycodone then you don't need to worry about the time release obviously.

If it's the new OP ocycontin then don't IV it. Breaking the time release is very hard (see *here*) and the end product would not be safe to IV under any circumstances.

If it's an OC or an IR oxycodone.. then it is possible, although I still strongly advise against it. Shooting pills is dangerous - on top of the normal IV dangers there is a risk of developing a severe and progressive lung condition called talcosis/pneumoconiosis, a high risk of abscesses if you miss and a higher risk of vein damage.

It is essential that you use a micron filter and don't cook/heat the pill (this causes nasty poorly soluble particles to dissolve and enter your shot; oxycodone is freely soluble in cold water so there is no need).

Oxycodone has a very high oral bioavailability, and most people don't get a rush from shooting it, so there is very little benefit in IVing it - at much greater risk.

if thats your last one i wouldn't waste it on IV. like he said most people dont feel a rush from it, i certainly didnt, much better do it orally or rail it with some sort of potentiator

The bio availability of oxycodone is high enough that you'll get almost as much out of it just crushing at eating it as you would shooting it. I've done both, and don't find I get much more than a faster onset with IV, but there are all the risks associated with IVing pills. The high is also a lot shorter with the IV route.
