You should also think about stretching the joint and working it through its full ROM with light weight during the recovery phase, so as to not loose any ROM and to aid in getting the blood flowing there. RICE ( Rest Ice Compression Elevation), can help during the initial injury, but you may want to see if you can get a compression shirt for the shoulder to help support it when you are lifting.
