For myself, I've found pre-dosing with a benzo or alcohol can avoid the initial apprehension that has sometimes led me to those dark places. Being in, or artificially creating a good mindset goes a long way to not spending a (seeming) eternity in hell.

I found that while on an SSRI I was able to smoke very large quantities of DMT with only a minimal effect. It wasn't until I allowed several weeks for it's clearance that I finally had the OHMYFUCKINGGOD!! experience. So maybe on a long lasting psychedelic, a few prozac/zoloft/celexa might displace the drug. Whether it could do it quickly enough to really make a difference, I don't know.

pre-dosing with a benzo seems a little stupid with such a special medicine as DMT. Why take it at all, really?

If you're concerned about somebody on oral DMT, why not let them try DMT first via vaporization (which is tremendously more gentle) and then afterwards let them try it via rectal or nasal administration (which has a similar timeline as oral DMT). If they've made it that far then it would seem they can handle oral DMT.

Remember, set and setting. Festivals and in the middle of the woods are not really the best place to trip on intense psychedelics for most people. The majority of my friends are far more comfortable in houses or in nearby garden areas for intense trips.
