how many miligrams and why

8the lower the dose the better. It's not a drug used to induce sleep, it enhances sleep and dream recall. It's not at all sedating, anything over 1mg/day and you're wasting your money. As well, according to some new research my psych has gone over, melatonin takes about 5 hours to really take effect, so if you're taking it for sleep, consider taking it 5 hours before or so.
the companies selling 10mg tablets are just playing on the idea that more is better but with melatonin this is not the case. At best you are wasting money, at worst it may affect your sleep in a negative way. I can go find some studies about this but am too lazy, the info is out there to back me up though.
the entire supplement market is fucked and corrupted IMO.
Anything above 3mg seems wasteful. I do ~1mg when using it for sleep.
