how much melatonin is too much

Theoretically the limit hasn’t been found, but nasty shit happens sometimes above a couple grams.

So for you individually, there is no answer.

You don’t get fucked up off of it, you just get sleepy if you take monstrous doses...

Sweet dreams. Really, just take whatever they say on the bottle, or a bit more if you cant sleep. Stuff never did work too well for me. Nor valerian. Kava, yes!
 
the lower the dose the better. It's not a drug used to induce sleep, it enhances sleep and dream recall. It's not at all sedating, anything over 1mg/day and you're wasting your money. As well, according to some new research my psych has gone over, melatonin takes about 5 hours to really take effect, so if you're taking it for sleep, consider taking it 5 hours before or so.

the companies selling 10mg tablets are just playing on the idea that more is better but with melatonin this is not the case. At best you are wasting money, at worst it may affect your sleep in a negative way. I can go find some studies about this but am too lazy, the info is out there to back me up though.

the entire supplement market is fucked and corrupted IMO.

Melatonin is sedating. The sedation starts at around 20 mg and up...

It is just like the afterglow of a psychedelic tryptamine trip... It’s a weird sleepy headspace... No high. Just mellow hard to stay awake feeling.
 
taking melatonin frequently is not a good idea ime, it takes a long time to get back to normal sleep without taking it daily if you make a routine out of it. ive personally never found it sedating even at huge huge doses, but i do get a better sleep.
 
yeah i've never found it to be sedating in the least, regardless if the dose is 100mg, 50 or 10, or 1.

melatonin is still useful as a sleep enhancer, i'd prefer to have zero dream recall though so i don't really like taking it. As well, all tryptamines leave me completely wired afterwards, even mushrooms. Then again i'm one of those people who need to be hit like a train by seroquel to fall asleep after tripping, so YMMV.
 
i find if ive been high on tryptamines that the melatonin doesnt help much with sleep haha. it can help a bit after a coke or jib bender though
 
i dont think you could die from any dose of melatonin that youd actually be able to/willing to consume. taking hundreds of pills just seems whack haha.

im pretty positive that taking it daily for more than a few days begins to change the way your brain produces melatonin. daily use for a few months will fuck your sleep cycle for a long time, and seems to cause mood swings for the first few weeks of not taking it. imho melatonin really shouldnt be available OTC as its not well understood enough and it plays a big role in your brain.
 
It is cheaply available as pure powder. I have taken 2 grams before. I couldn’t stay awake for the life of me...

It is reminiscent of when you stay awake for two days... I fell asleep like a rock.

This shit is fucking excellent for coke comedowns... I’ll never do coke without it again...

It wipes out the stimulation completely at 10-15 mg
 
^you must have some strange body chemistry... melatonin for a coke comedown? i don't suppose you're one of those people who just tire out and fall asleep? or otherwise sleep normally? one of my friends is like that, can be spun as hell, then will just go to sleep whereas i'll just end up staying awake for many many hours wired as shit even if i stop taking whatever stimulant.

There are other studies around too if you search. How much is too much melatonin? well according to MIT, over 300 micrograms. As for psychedelic jay, it's like you are having a paradoxical reaction to melatonin, i don't know what is up with you or how melatonin possibly works for you but if it works, it works i guess.
 
I've had docs tell me melatonin doesn't work, I've even seen convincing arguments claiming melatonin supplements aren't absorbed for whatever reason.

Nonetheless, after trialling 3 packs some years ago, it provided the most reliable effect of any medication I've tried.
I didn't have problems with tiredness at the time, but they consistently gave me extra-restive, very lucid (not context-aware, just increased sense of 'presence' in dreams), intensely vivid dreams.
I 'suffer' from dream vividity from time to time (maybe 2 or 3 times a week average) ever since mucking around with fungi and calea zacatechichi (dreamherb) - still can't decide if I recommend it or not...
Melatonin produced consistently-interesting dream states and great colours and visions to remember and be entranced by upon waking. And I woke up feeling like it was a great, quality sleep - unlike opes, or doxylamine succinate which wake me up like the groggy part of a hangover with a vengeance.
I believe I was taking 10-20mg doses .5-1 hrs before bed.

If only we looked after our natural melatonin cycle better.
We should be in darkness 10-14 hrs a day, no sleeping troubles then.
 
Anything above 3mg seems wasteful. I do ~1mg when using it for sleep.

This all depends on what you are trying to acheive.

Do a search on high dose melatonin, People couldn’t stay awake. There is even talk about using it as an adjunct to conscious anesthesia...
