How have drugs HELPED you out in life...

Like a few others have said, drugs like MDMA and psilocybin have shown me how AWFUL alcohol really is.

A few years ago I was drinking quite a lot, out twice a week getting pissed, throwing up in the street etc.. with terrible hangovers as a result. :| I thought that was the only way to have some "fun" and enhance your night out. Hah!

I'm so grateful I discovered these much more pleasant ways to have a good night out/trippy day in. I've come to better know and respect my body, I now have a real interest in chemistry and what various substances do to the body and mind. There are still many drugs I want to experiment with, but I don't feel the urge to go out and get them *right now* and get wankered every weekend.

Maybe it's also part of "growing up" that I now have a different outlook on things, but somehow I feel that if I hadn't discovered these better drugs, I would still be getting drunk and stupid every week.

When my kids were little I was quite happy being a full time mum but as they got older and didn't need me so much I realised I had very little social life that didn't involve kids and I was starting to get bored. I was mid-thirties, overweight, frumpy and premenstrual a lot of the time. Then I discovered MDMA by chance and within no time my PMS disappeared, I decided to get healthy, the weight fell off me and as a result I was happier far more of the time. Along with the MDMA there was ghb and ketamine. Then it was speed and gbl for many years. Hallucinogens never really did it for me.

Drugs made me able to see things far more clearly, I realised what was important in my life and what wasn't. I stopped wanting to acquire material goods and started to have fun as myself not just as a mum. Drugs have given me so many memorable times. Some were not so nice and there's been a few very scary moments, but on the whole they have enhanced my life no end.

I'm not sure my other half would be quite so enthusiastic as he has been to some dark places along the way. The fun times were good though and given the choice to go back he would still do it all again.

As a bonus, we now have two happy, well adjusted grown up children.

And some of us still remember the pictures. ;)

Valkyrie, you're are a star. <3 But you know that (or you should).

And fuck operation Ismene.

Big love.

There are no 'enlightened' 'people', as what is meant by enlightenment is abiding non-dual awareness. In other words, realising on a bodily, experiential level that there is no person, no you; just this; consciousness streaming. Free falling phenomena, for nobody. Read: tony parsons, jed McKenna, David carse to name a few who explain this process. Tolle is up to his armpits in bulllshit IMHO.

Tolle turned out to be quite alright for me. After shuffling through buddhist, hindu (vedas), and yes Christian writing I never had a feeling like he was contradicting any of it on the contrary I felt like reaching a better level of understanding for the profound. Yet the way he writes doesn't appeal to everyone.
I extracted some names from you post that I heaven't heard of or haven't read their writings yet. Always nice.

The concept of non-duality is incredibly powerful and transformative. It goes hand in hand with acceptance and realization of who you really are without putting a label on it. The understanding that I am not my job, my car, my clothes, my bank account, or even my body is something that lacks in our society and certain drugs have the potential to uncover that illusion. MDMA helped me a lot with that up to the point where all of my relationships deepened to a very satisfying and fulfilling level as soon a I have stopped trying to live up to my self-image and let the chips fall where they may.

God bless Chemistry<3

that is so very true! just that quote will help me out more than you will ever know! thankyou <3

LSD for me mainly. It definitely helped me kick my weed habit. It's also changed my outlook on life in general for the better. I feel like I need to use LSD at least once a year so it can keep teaching me things.

Also ketamine, for short term improvement in mood and general feeling of optimism for the week following.

ricardo thats exactly how i am! i feel i need to use it once A year so i know where im going n stuff..

I like this thread. Admittedly have only read a smatterin'. But have the gist. To my satisfaction. Will read back after...

So many... so... many... and varied... and stuff... and that...

Uppers:

Speed: Sulphate gave me life, love and... mucho bullshit. But fuck it was good at the time <3

I prefer sulphate (oldskool stylee =D) for prefences... but meth has its charms... so did base when it had speed in it. Greatly underrated family o' fun.

Coke (HCl): Meh. Okay if youse wanna be cuntz... and fukkin' <3 it... (for an hour or so at best)

Crack: As above only divide that hour considerably, then multiply considerably...and then rob a granny or two. Perhaps.

MDMA: Stimz wiv stylez. Taught me how to communicate and appreciate my fellow folky-dokes. Truly. Mother mocked but she's a wrongun cos it really is godly when done right.

PeeVee: <3 Powdered Zen meets Psychosis in 'phetamised bliss <3

Other RC stimz: Meh. Mostly.

Downers:

Benzos: Have their place... sometimes.

Opies: <3

And also, "Fuckin' ow!!!" and the like.

Psychedelic in the true sense... and lush beyond belief when you hit the right one (deep in the appropriate vein <3<3<3)

Lesser opies are all shite, no shinola tho. Fuck shite opies. Fuck great opies. Unless...

Psyches:

Need I even say? Fuck. These critters saved my life so many times it ain't even funny. Pretty much all you can name so I don't need too here. But... fuuuuuckkk yeah <3

Dissociatives:

Ouch + <3

That is all.

Methadone is the only drug that's helped me.

Without it I would be a full time slave to heroin and I would've inevitably lost my job.

so now you're a slave to methadone?

it doesn't really teach you things - it just makes you realize things you already knew, but your ego wouldn't let you see it for whatever reason.

^ Hmm... undecided on the whole teaching thing with 'cid and all her swirlerifickest friends. Was always leaning towards similar to what you did dun just tap. Less so now. Even all these years on some such shenanigans can rip you a new one when you least expect it. Third eye squeegee'd to fuckenback 8o

Lucy is lush enough... but for me it's those wacky ol' combos that really lead lightwards. I honestly never thought no not never again... but sometimes one of those tossed together randomers bring forth elves when least expected. So sayeth some psyches sometimes too...

Dad was an undercover narcotics agent. So his paycheck paid for everything I had.

thanks dad.
