You bring up excellent points anfalicious...
THat is one of the biggest problems with heroin...the drug can make someone feel absolutely amazing...and i believe, that in alot of cases (from personal experience) that the worse you feel when you are straight, the better you'll feel when you have heroin...ie, the more pressures that you have in life, if you have family problems, personal problems, trauma, etc etc. It also comes down to the individual
The thing is, you could be one of the people who use it on a friday nite, weekly for 20 years, or you could be one of the ones who get hooked instantly. I think thats more of a psychological addiction, as opposed to physical.
...this is very true also. But i wonder, if that person who has it on a friday night, couldn't get it on a friday night anymore...how would they be?
There are SO many factors to look at when discussing heroin addiction...ie, i've known people who don't have alot of problems, but have been addicted to heroin for 10 years...got hooked instantly. I've known people who have problems in their lives most dire, have tried heroin, used for a few weeks then stopped. Psychological addiction leads to physical addiction. I've seen people in the throwes of some of the worst cravings...whole body is cramping up, screaming in pain, unable to move...i never want to see it again. I've also seen someone die from an overdose...spoke to him 5 minutes previously, walked out, he got his shot, walked back in, turned blue and collapsed. Ambos couldn't help him. NEVER want to see that again
Some people take heroin, because for an hour or 2, their lives are "cool". They were raped as children, they've lost both their parents, mum or dad is an alcoholic...heroin takes the pain away.
So, depending on the person, yes heroin is a VERY addictive drug.
These are only my views, based on my experience with the drug...some may feel differently, but oh well. I have no links to back this up, just experience.
