How does MDA degrade over time? Does it oxidize and turn into something else?

In 2012, I got some lightning bolts. Really solid MDA, great, sweaty, stoney, shit-eating-grin time. I kept just a few for later use.

Two years later, I tried it again. Great initial experience, but then it got dark and paranoid at the peak, mostly due to a set / setting interruption. Little paranoid blurps going off in my head, like how the helicopters flying above me totally knew what I was doing, etc. Pulse racing at 140 bpm. Suuuper sweaty, swallowing felt like I had playdough in my mouth. I was able to keep it from going full-on bad trip, and just watched some TV and chilled out. But it took several hours.

This has never happened on MDMA, not matter what the set / setting. But this is also the only time I've ever taken old pills.

My question is whether or not MDA (or MDMA) degrades to a different chemical over 2 years. If not, how does it degrade? How long will it still be good?

Also, is MDA simply less predictable than MDMA? Does it have a higher potential to turn ugly if the set / setting is bad?

Well I remember reading that MDMA is extremely stable and MDMA that would've been synthesized during the construction of the pyramids would still be good today.
So MDMA should not degrade to a different chemical in 2 years.
However, I don't know about MDA.

Mda and mdma if kept in proper conditions will outlive you. You probably had this freak out due to the psychedelic qualities of MDA, and like you said: set and setting. It happens. Though I don't think you should turn to your chemical for the reason of the "bad trip".

Could of been Dehydration and or Anxiety so I would Smoke some Cannabis Buds to Chill.

Can we get some sources for this as from what I have seen on certain synthesis forums some salts of MDMA overtime can turn into a sludgey mess. Weather conditions can also greatly impact this.

I think there are certain variables in the mix here to be so certain about this however, I am open to suggestions or would be interested to see some sources etc.

Apparently Shulgin said that

Thanks for the replies. I had noticed the great number of variations of phenethylamines out there, often just having an atom or two different, with vastly different effects, so maybe a degraded compound could change. But I'm glad to hear that's not the case.

I'm sure it was MDA, the pills were tested in 2012. I think the issue is that MDA is less predictable, particularly for someone like me who has had difficult times with psychedelics.

Probably should stick with MDMA. Oh well!

Cheers for the link.

I did read that write up. Only thing to note is this at the end:

If stored in a cool, dry and closed container such as an amber glass vial (avoid excessive heat, light or moisture), its safe to assume that MDMA and 2C-T-7 will both last longer than you will.

So I guess if weather conditions were warm, potentially humid, or you stored the MDMA with sun exposure then this could affect things.

I also wonder if the MDMA had impurities with it. Could any of these interact with the MDMA over time?
