how do you deal with misnformed people?

I love those drug legends where apparently there is a drug that has a very specific effect in everyone, making everyone who uses it believe they are some animal or cartoon character or whatever. Wow, I didn't know we all had the smurfs hardwired into our brains from birth.

I've heard about this new drug called 'meow meow', which is the deadly new plant food drug. apparently it makes you act like a cat, then recount your story to 'today tonight'.:p

Alot of the time with my mates it comes down to them not wanting to lose an argument, so won't back down on some myths about drugs (acid is stored in the spine is one of my friends favourites). on the whole, most of mates are pretty cluey about drugs, and some browse bluelight so it is rare that i have to dispel myths for them.

the worst people to try and reason with are those who have never done drugs and have strong anti-drug stance. they have no personal frame of reference to back up their statements. nor are they ever really informed on what the actual risks are vs. the made up risks. I generally don't both arguing with these type of people. they don't use drugs, and they're not going to change their mind. so whats the point.

sorry if this doesn't make much sense, pretty scat today.%)

As far as I know or what I thought i knew is that 'flashbacks' are a type of Post traumatic Stress, maybe caused by a really horrific trip or something that causes trauma possibly? Im not sure..

But yeah I dont bother with telling people anymore unless they actually want to listen, i get that 'freak for knowing too much' shit too and when i try and argue with someone i want to beat my head into a wall because of their stupidity.

When people have come to me about stupid far fetched rumors about drugs - mainly psychedelics, i have taken the time to try to educate them on the reality of the drug and how it effects you, but i have come across the odd dickhead that just wanted to believe the bullshit and i haven't generally bothered to waste any time on them.

It's a debate that just isn't worth having.

Listening to the wafflings of the uninformed started out as an irritant for me, moved on to become a mild form of entertainment for a while and now I can't be arsed listening to them. I do arc up occassionally when some cop or polly sprukes bullshit as fact publicly, but hey... life's too short.

On the flashback thing - I had one superbad experience after having totally laid off acid for 18 months. Happened in the isle of a Coles when I was shopping with my mum. Shelves suddenly loomed tall over me and started to cave-in and I freaked. Next thing my mum and the Coles security bloke were knocking on the car window for me to unlock the door. I was curled up like a fetus in the foot-well. Apparently I was screaming my box off as I vaulted the turnstyle and the whole thing was done in a couple of minutes. There were no excuses to dream up as I was clean at the time and nothing similar has happened since. Maybe it was a flashback. Who knows...

Yeah don't bother with it bro. I have tried convincing SO MANY people about different types of drugs using clear evidence, cited from websites and there comeback is "shut the fuck up you fukin stoner"
so now I just say 'you're wrong' and don't bother arguing back because I know i'm right.

BT been a while, another great resource, a more quick FAQ and facts resource, great to start out at!

I do what i can with in reason, but there is such a thing as flogging a dead horse! 8) I pass some over here to B/L and the net in general.. BTW nice to see you here BT %)

I'm happy to pass on any knowledge I have to anyone willing to listen. I can judge tho which ppl are less likely to be swayed from their views tho. Recently I've educated quite a few younger ppl who had no idea and were using pills and speed quite unsafely.
The key is to not come across as a know it all or talk down to ppl and to back up what u say when required.

I think dealing with friends is a lot easier than trying to convince randoms that their ways are flawed.... friends you feel a bit more of a diuty of care, but there's only so much info you can pass onto those you're not too well acquainted with, without them thinking you're trying to encroach. It really does depend on how open to criticism a person holds their views, and on what grounds.

This works both ways, we have to be willing to accept some criticism that there is real risks involved with drug use. But correct them when they say things that aren't correct.
