I've been on benzos daily for a total of about two and a half years. I have a high tolerance, really bad balance, and a terrible memory. I don't always stop at therapeutic doses, not that that needs to be said. I'd like to start taking them only as needed.
There are two problems with this. The first is that, if I tell my GP that I want to take benzos only as needed, she'll drop my script, and I won't have the buffer of extra pills in case I have a really bad time. The second is that I'm physiologically dependent. I won't give you a sob story, but bad things happen when I don't have my benzos. I'm organically prone to several benzo withdrawal effects, so it's really rough.
My plan is to taper down with my GP, stay on a lower dose of script benzos, and have a backup of RC benzos. However, I'm approaching serious exam season, and I could do without any complications of tapering right now. I may have no choice, as my GP may have been contacted by my psych nurse about something which happened a couple weeks back which I ascribed to lorazepam to avoid trouble. I'm pretty scared by this whole thing. What do I do?
