How close is USA to legalization?

I hope everyday for less strict drug regulations and invasion of privacy for this stupid shit, but ive watched too many harmless people go away/get their kids taken away for a few bowls and a pipe. Raiding has spiked around the area i am losing faith, i wish something big would happen to make me a believer once again, but i think were moving in the opposite direction :(

This bill won't be up for a vote for about a year, and Arnold will be out by then. One of the more promising gubnetorial candidates is San Fran's current mayor. He has stated on the record that he would pass the bill. Looks like those of you in Cali have some work to do to get this guy elected. The rest of the nation will fall in line once Cali legalizes.

So yeah, I fall in the 2-5 year crowd (if we keep fighting).

yup, i think once the rest of the nation sees californias progress from legalization - it'll slowly spread throughout the nation.

never, criminalization of drugs is a multi billion dollar a year industry.

But once they get over the hard part of making it legal, there are plenty of dollars to be made as well....taxation....they'll legalize it in 5 years. It's coming....

I say a decade or two. I think the support is slowly growing, at least here in Canada. But i'd say it wont come before the US.

IIRC the CA bill has a clause that specifies it will only take effect once cannabis is legalized federally.

i almost think we need to start getting agressive with the movement like gay rights activists, but be reasonable at the same time. It's getting alot more attention though but i want to see this in my lifetime while i'm young! It's a bit "scary" protesting something that you can be thrown in prison for though :(

i dont know how long it will take but i am scared about it happening. i love pot, how it is know, sure i would like to b able to smoke where ever i want and not be scared of getting pulled over and shit. but what is the gov legalizes it and they take control of it. taxing it putting preservatives and chemicals in it to make it "safer." i just dont trust that long term good will come of legalization. i mean i loke wek because it is natural and i can see companies and the government changing that. but that is just me.

Someone is bound to grow organic cannabis.

^^do they have organic cigarettes?

(serious question, i really don't know)

it's hard to be reasonable when the opposition doesn't need to meet that requirement for their legislation to be passed.

as long as you're a part of peaceful, law-abiding protests then you won't be arrested. the 1st Amendment and all that. :)

edit: my bad for the double post. i meant to copy and paste this into an edit for my last one.

I'll take all that any day over marijuana being illegal to even have.

Well ive got like 50+ years left in my life, i BETTER see decriminalisation of weed in my lifetime here in aus ><

Since when does the First Amendment protect civil disobedience?

how is a peaceful, law-abiding demonstration of protest the same thing as civil disobedience?

ignoring/breaking a law and protesting one are two different things.

Ah, sorry. I read too much into what was said and thought it was suggested that masses should smoke in public rather than merely assemble.
