How can you hold a Dope/Opiate habit for 5-10+years?

Honestly, I always hear people say they have been doing H, or other opiates for 5+ years and I am just curious if there's some secret to supporting a habit for this long.

I know I shouldn't be doing opiates and they only lead you to a hole, but I am at a point in my life where I have little responsibilities and a lot of spending money.

But I feel I am naturally gravitating towards quitting them because I just cannot seem to afford them.

Here is my short history with opiates:
Last December I started doing 80s daily, and by April 1st, I was doing 2-3 80s at once, 2-4 times a day.

I went to rehab and detoxed like hell for 17 days. After leaving rehab I was clean until the end of august when I found suboxone, which was extremely cheap compared to my previous habit.

This was good for a month and then they stopped working so I moved back to 80s, which got to be to expensive again in only one week, and after stopping for a day I started to withdrawal again so I decided to try H.

This was amazing and cheap at first. $10-20 and I would be content.

At the beginning of December I had been using H for around 3 months and I was snorting 7-8 bags in one line, and it was only getting me high for an hour. I was consuming a brick in 2 days.

Now for the past month and a half I have been using subs regularly, yes I will admit I occasionally stop for a couple days and sneak a dose of H in.

But I have just naturally lost the drive to get high because I cannot justify using all of my spending money in just a couple days, to barely even get that high because my tolerance is so messed.

I never made the move to needles because I knew shooting 3 bags would get me high at first but I figured in a month my tolerance would be just as high as it is now, and the withdrawal would set in that much faster and be that much worse.

So I'm wondering is my tolerance so high because of my use of 80s in the past? Or is shooting really the answer? Does tolerance increase slower with IV use? Or do people misrepresent their use (i.e. I've been using for 6months combined but would say one year and exclude my sober time)? Do I just use to frequently? Is taking subs when you can't afford H in an active habit just keeping your tolerance to high? How can you hold a job and go through withdrawal (which would lower your tolerance right?)?

Is there something I am missing, or does having an opiate addiction just really suck this bad after only 3-6 months?

This guy f i misd knows. supports by hitting stores and pawning certain items. he is now chased for multiple sL charges in va. TOday f i misd. is putting down his problems and trying to fix with suboxone. he figures 4 days and he will be fine to go cold turkey

Your tolerance will skyrocket super fast if you start banging it. Try to stick to snorting it and when you use subs on your off days use as little as possible. If you continue down this path it may fuck your life up . After a few years in this game if your anything like me youll say fuck you to work and become a hustler . That was the only way I could feed the gorilla on my back. Im grateful those days are behind me. Life is much easier when your not an opiate addict. Be safe :)

I am almost 22 and been doin heroin since i was 16. Shits a bitch. I dont even fucking know how ive carried on this long. Its a miracle im alive. Ive spent so many nights laying in bed, HIGH, WITH DOPE - and begging God to just take me now. and you know youre fucked when you are high and you got more shit to bang and you still dont even want to live anymore cuz youre so fuckin goddamn sick of the constant struggle & hustle. think about feelin that way when youre fucken nodding...and then imagine how you feel when youre dope sick. times that by a million.

that right there is the pain n loathing of bein a daily opiate addict. you hate life when you aint high and dont see the point to livin without it. you dont want to live and dont want to die. you secretly hope youll OD everytime you boot up just becuz you are scared to die and dont want to do it your self, but if it happens on accident then you wont know its coming and you can go peacefully. its twisted shit man. My tolerance is fucked and i aint even got that big of a habit. It seems that magically somehow no matter how much dope you put in front of me i can do it in a day. i buy 2 bundles to stock up, somehow they disappear in 24 hours anyways. buy more to make it last longer and just end uup doing more.

there aint no limit on that tolerance, and then its like you dont just wanna get well, you wanna be FuCKED THE FUCK UP and just get shit-ass faded, and it takes alot to get there, and then your bundles gone and youre on the next one already and your entire check is gone in 2 days and you hate yourself and your life for bein such a misearble piece of junkie shit and spend all day huslting enough just to get like 30 bucks to get 5 bags with and it aint barely even enough to keep you from gettin sick and its so, god, damn, fuckin EXHAUSTING to live that life that every night you fall into your bed more tired than paris hilton at a dick-taking contest and jst want to sleep forever and then you wake up and start all over again. So to answer your question cuz i got kind of off topic, I realy dont fucking know how i manage to survive day to day much less know how ive managed to be doing it almost 6 years. Only god knows i guess.

I'm sorry Lacey but speak for yourself on that shit. I use pharms because I am prescribed them but I am able to maintain a pretty low tolerance only taking my stuff at night (2 years so far) and I keep a steady job. I actually work better when I'm on my meds. I don't feel like killing myself in fact I always look forward to the next day. I have friends that I met in my pain management clinic who have been on morphine for 10 years and are still doing fine. You just gotta be responsible and take care of your shit. And don't give me this "pain patients don't get high" I have a legitimate prescription for pain and I still feel the buzz from opiates. My life is in order and my tolerance is pretty low, maybe I'm lucky...but I know many other people in the same situation. Now if you start banging it, that's a different story. Your tolerance will sky rocket...

BROTHER : )
:( though sadly the news is rather grim.
for most who step their feet into the world of opium ten years is nothing it flies by let alone 5......it becomes your lifesyle theres no way to wake u without it.
how hard is it to use for 10 or more years?
one of the easiest yet hardest things youll ever do unless your consistently getting GOOD pain releif from a clinic...the life of the street junkie will ALWAYs have its extrme ups and downs. life will be miserable because of it, OR life will be wonderful because of it (if you dont let it control you but just keep at a dose that really does releive your pain not get high etc.
its all up to you and how you use it......everyones ALWAYS got a choice, its just kidna a hard one ill admit

There is an upper limit on tolerance; it's just sufficiently high that there's only one way people can achieve it if they're not born rich or have a very high paying job; and that's selling to support your habit. The main challenge there is not fucking things up; but opiates aren't anywhere near as bad as coke/crack, plenty of people can live normal productive lives despite the cost of their habit being hundreds of dollars per day. You just need to have the right connections; an upper level (or even mid level) supplier and the clients- if you want to stay in the game long term you need to operate at the mid level where just a few trusted people will take all your shit. This is much simpler for pharmaceutical drugs, not to mention your suppliers are doctors who won't ever shoot you (unless you're lucky enough to have connections in the pharma company... I knew one dude who had such a connect and moved 5,000 OC80s weekly, but got busted and is serving life), and your clients tend to be different than the street junkies associated with heroin.
In any situation you just have to be responsible. Always ration out your shit so you're not sick, don't take so much you're nodding out at work, etc. But I really think doctors are the way to go for long term high dose habits, much stabler, and unless you've got a killer connect it's probably a higher profit margin. You don't even need to move that much product compared to street drugs to cover absurd amounts of personal stuff.

Thanks for your replies, I'd appreciate any other ones as well. I'll make another post when I have more time.

I think there are only a couple ways to sustain a consistent dope habit:
1. be filthy rich
2. be really determined/homeless
3. Use-then get clean and repeat

I fall into category 3. I've been using opiates/heroin for ~6 years. With about 2 years clean (suboxone) time. It started with hydros/percs/OCs progressed to heroin which I used daily for 2-3 years. Followed by 1 1/2 years clean then got used "responsibly" to pills/poppy pods for a year or two. Now i'm on suboxone again. So if i wanted to dicksize I'd say "yeah man i've been shooting dope for 6 years" and if I wanted to play it down I'd say "I used to have a problem". :\

Only people who are really dedicated/don't give a fuck/have tons of money can keep using daily for years IMO.
lacyk: i buy 2 bundles to stock up, somehow they disappear in 24 hours anyways. buy more to make it last longer and just end uup doing more.
QFT^^^ you might not agree with her but thats probably just because you haven't been using as long/heavily. its a depressing road. yeah sure at first life was magnificent, shooting dope, getting laid, not a care in the world but as time passes shit gets fucked. you want to stop/you want to die but you just keep going along...nothing else matters besides curing the sickness and even when your not sick all you think about is all the fucked up shit you've done to get high and how you hate what your doing but you just keep going. Or maybe your that one in a million dope fiend who can get high everyday without shit catching up with you. The only thing is that every junkie thinks they're that one in a million. keep on shootin and slowly watch your world slowly crumble around you.

edit: having a script is a different beast altogether. You can't compare getting a fixed amount of pills every month to having a (potentially) unlimited amount of heroin. Everyday you wake up knowing you can have all the heroin you can afford, instead of waking up knowing you have ___ number of pills to ration until your next refill.

^Well, you mentioned three possibilities, be born rich, be a rockstar, or sell dope. You emphasized the third option, but since this is a harm reduction site, I'll recommend he be born rich.

Hey "zzITCHY420zz" I got your PM, thanks for the reply, and I don't care if it wasn't posted in here I liked what I read. I wrote you a response but then realized I couldn't send it because I am still greenlighter status. I can post it in here if you want.

hey dankster you know what I mean totaly Yeah Man I feel you definatly, However there REALLY is a point that I MUST emphasize to Everyone:
Even if youv had addiction problems in the past-this does NOT AUTOMATICLY mean you will be a junkie the rest of your life. thats BULLSHIT because you have to understand that EVERYONE has a choice in their actions. it all comes down to how YOU decide to utilize the tools youve been given.
Therefore If I am scripted an oxy 80 3 times a day and 3 or so norcos a day, I COULD eat them ALL in less than a week. But i still COULD make them last me the entire month.
I realized this one day YEARS ago (like 6-7) with my klonopin. I LOVED getting shipwrecked on them at first. but I do have legitamatly a HARDCORE fucking panic disorder GAD insomnia and such, threfore I REALLY do need the meds I need my benzos every day.
it was either, Get high as fuck on them and Go 2 or more weeks MISERABLE, OR take just what I am prescribed which happened to be PLENTY for my condition and it wastn enough to get me high so I knew I would NEVER again gain any excitement out of them if I went this path but I realized I would RATHER live an anxiety free life where I dont feel trashed and then freaking out for weeks-Id rather do this than get high on them and then not have them. they are too important. I could keep getting high on them but I decided that woul dbe stupid.
so either use your shit AS directed or become an addict. its the painful truth

and I have a bridge you can buy on the cheap in Brooklyn...8)

You're absolutely right. And there no such thing as a 'cartel' either because really anyone who has seen large quantities of drugs is a liar because nobody has access to anything more than what all the low level kids have.

are u kidding me? search the archives to see just how many different ways and paths people take towards achieving that 5-10 year use

It's now on 6 years for me. i've had breaks and all, but ive been mostly using moreso then sober. junkie guidelines:

1. start Banging.

if you intend to use long term, needle is the only way to go. Iv preferably... but even IM is better then other methods... though this is far riskier... smoking and snorting just waste the drug and cause uneeded damage. if you have a habit, you're wasting money. unlike other methods, clean new needles when used properly, and sterile injections are performed acurratley, are the safest and most potent method possible. If know what you're doing.

2. Get a hustle... or three.

even if you have a job, your needs are going to be above your paycheck. and not many of us have jobs. generally most junkies result to ripping off people. this is a shitty way to live and its not cool, but it's how we survive when forced to. either begging, stealing, conning, lying, selling dope for more then its worth... etc etc, every junkie has a hustle. i don't need to do this because I am a chronic pain patient so i get tons of dilaudid a month, more then i need (so you could say i'm hustling to an extent, though i have legit pain). we all have some way to get money or drugs that requires little work. and don't do it if you are not struggling. even then it's not cool or respectable. i don't do it anymore because of this.

3. be a good customer.

Have a quick, reliable and simple way to buy your drugs. Make sure you don't take extra time. don't become friends with a dealer. just be professional and reliable yourself so he does it quick and serves you always with quality shit. spend a lot of money, but not more then you should, although this is not realistic. lol. this behavior makes your dealer more likely to stock you when you are low if you are known to be a good buyer, he will eventually front you. establish multiple relationships.

4. be smart.

learn how to hide drugs, and learn the law. don't take risks. don't be stupid.

5. learn how to play a doctor to get max benefits.

Learn how to lie subtly, learn how to exploit your medical problems. do not use a doctor as a main source unless you have a foul-proof reason for going like i do (proof of chronic pain- mri's, patient history), and even then learn how to deal with the doc, do not badger him, but learn to milk his script hand. i will not give further advice because i donit want to get my comments deleted. but if you have common sense you will learn this. just dont be stupid, doctors should be treated and spoken to like cops.

6. Be respectable.

Try not to engage in excessive illegal behavior. get a job or go to school. try to make something out of your life. dont become a regular dealer, limit yourself. dealers get ratted. try to pay bills. try to treat people with respect and polite words and keep relationships intact. don't let the drug take everything from you. you have willpower.

7. don't delude yourself.

Be honest. you have a problem. by not lying to yourself you will avoid a lot of bullshit and help curb problems to an extent. if you recognize you have a problem, you still may not quit. like me for example. i just set goals... no more stealing, no illlegal bullshit to support my habit... etc etc. and if it makes you quit, that's not a BAD THING.

This what i've done to survive. the 7 basics i guess. i wonder if i ever will quit. it's a nightmare man. im lucky i am on dilaudid legally now so at least my addiction is now affordable... but that just makes it harder to stop...

who the hell said that I am speaking for everyone? And I dont care wat people say, I IV heroin, you take prescription opiates, the chemical difference aint a lot but the lifestyle is. when you spend all day hustling up money in the ghetto and spend more time on the block than at your house and live to shoot up in grimey ass bathrooms, run thru alley ways and walk thru the hood by your self with the wind whippin around you in the cold ass winter streets always lookin behind your shoulder worryin about cops n stick up kids and all kind of low life shit, its a hell of a lot different than picking up your pills from the pharmacy.

You may be a addict just like me i dont know you. and sure addiction comes in all forms whether its upper class or the feen homeless on the corner. i aint sayin by no means that scripted opiates are somehow not as bad cuz they got the potential in the wrong hands to be pound for pound just as much of a life destroyer.

but wat i am saying, and this is the reason that you dont agree with me most likely, all I know is the lifestyle associated with bein a hopelessly addicted diesel feen is fuckin worlds away from the life of someone who strickly uses only the meds that they are prescribed and use it as prescribed for the most part. The desperation of the heroin lifestyle just aint there when it comes to your situation, is wat it sounds like to me. It just dont compare, and its a lot more physically and emotionally exhausting and draining to live the life of a junkie than to pickup your pills, pop a couple and go about your day , all legally and perfectly safe and secure.

Dont get it twisted and think that i am sayin that you cant be addicted if you got a script for pain pills, or that either one is any better or worse, I am just saying as a 100 percent true fact that its a lot harder to maintain day to day when you have to cop illegal drugs everyday, than it is to be able to go to your medicine cabinet and get your fix legally and sanely. And sure there is people on oxys n fent n dillys etc whose lifes are a wreck. and there is people who do dope that are professional, middle age, and on the DL that youd never know was addicts. but for the most part, to compare the life of a balls to the wall, dont care if they live or die IV heroin addict, to a person who takes reasonable doses of prescribed opiates on a low tolerance, the dopehead is gonna be a lot more wore down and sick and tired and miserable than the pain patient.

once again, the same mental issues and attachment can come from either one, legit or illicit, its both addictions, but obviously you aint lived the life of a dope shooter if you are speakin the way you do cuz trust me it really wears you down and gets to you after a while livin the way that i do and have lived in the past, it sounds like you got your shit together pretty good so of course its easy for you to maintain, its obvious it goes without saying. legal, most likely paid for by insurance habit=a lot easier to get by on and a lot less of the probs associated with illegal drug use. if you got your shit together and use as well, there aint much of a issue there and of course you aint gonna agree with the post i made earlier, the 2 lifes are very different altho they are the same in many ways its just 2 different worlds thats all. I speak for my self only but if there is people like me that are feelin the words im sayin they welcome to join me. Thas all.
