wiki said:Honokiol (C18H18O2) is a biphenolic compound present in the cones, bark, and leaves of Magnolia grandifloris that has been used in the traditional Japanese medicine Saiboku-to as an anxiolytic, antithrombotic, anti-depressant, anti-emetic, and anti-bacterial. While early research on the effective compounds in traditional remedies have simply used whole magnolia bark extracts, known as houpu magnolia, recent work has identified honokiol and its structural isomer magnolol as the active compounds in magnolia bark. In the late 1990s, honokiol saw a revival in western countries as a potent and highly tolerable anti-tumorigenic and neurotrophic compound.
i've just been discussing this with a friend of mine. there's only one thread i could find in OD about it with only one anecdotal report; apparently it is very similar to that of a light benzo dose. Mulungu is also available which is the alkaloid extract which may or may not be better. research shows Mulungu contains at least 20 isoquinoline alkaloids, many of which are anti-inflammatory, sedative, and analgesic in nature. animal studies also suggest GABA and Nicotinic receptor activity.
has anyone heard of this or perhaps tried it out? any input? i can't find anything conclusive as to whether it is physically addictive or not either.
http://clltopics.org/Phyto/honokiol.htmsufficient credible research now exists demonstrating honokiol is a potent and powerful drug, at the right dosage. Oral bioavailability combined with very little toxicity makes for an intriguing drug candidate. However, just because it comes from a “natural” source does not guarantee it is safe at all dosages and over a long period of time.
i'm going to go bury my head into more of this and see what i can come up with.

), have had it for a while on and off for 18 months, possibly longer and am only just starting to get pro-active in sorting it out. as a result anxiety is a huge side-effect. i'm at a point where its triggering panic attacks again, so it's getting pretty serious and i've started seeing a naturopath who's given me Proxan* figured to try and go a more natural way reducing my BP rather than straight jumping into another bottle of pills to rely on. but i digress.
