OMFG so I read about the principles of homeopathy and they've got to be the most ridiculous ideas ever to pose as science.
I bought a couple different homeopathic "sleep aides" a while back, and after no success with the normal dosage (or twice the normal dosage) I filed them away under "b" for "bullshit."
Then, after much research into why they don't work I find out that 1X is a one times DILUTION, not extraction as I would have liked to believe.
Meaning it was 1 part active ingredient to 9 parts water. After shaking vigorously they discard 9/10 of the mixture.
For a 2X dilution they do the same thing with the remaining 1/10 of the mixture...
30X... you see where this is going.

I'm not sure how you get a liquid dilution into a pill form, but it probably means it's less likely to work... Idk.

After finding this out, and being quite tired of these placebos taking up space in the cabinet, I decided to down the whole damn bottle. I imagine it was about 42 tablets, since I had tried 6(?) when I had first gotten them.
They tasted slightly sweet, since they're sugar pills. When I poured water into my mouth they fizzed. Interesting...

So, there's probably no chance that I'll get any effect from this is there?
The lowest dilution is Quinine 3X, so I'm hoping 30 of them would be a somewhat noticeable dose of it...
Should I go down the second bottle of slightly different homeopathics I have left?
The lowest dilution in that one is Passiflora (passion flower) 1X, meaning (hopefully) 10 of them would provide some effect from passion flower. I figure 42 HAS to do SOMETHING?! RIGHT?!
This is just speculation since we've established homeopathy's a bunch of bullshit anyway...

I just need someone to tell me to go eat the rest of my sugar pills.
It doesn't quite feel right to take a bunch of pills that may or may not have effect without consulting someone else first.

they are just sugar
there was a news show here that had them analyzed in a mass spectrometer and they could not detect a single active ingredient in any of the sample "pills" even down to like .5ppm

Even is the were passion flower extract instead of homeopathic bullshit i doubt they would hurt you. That's probably as close as you'll get to "just eat them, see what happens".

Are you trolling? If so it's actually moderately funny.

Lmao, no trolls here, just us boards...
That is, I'm just bored.

I figured they'd be just sugar.

So, even in a 1X dilution though? It seems there would have to be a molecule of something even diluted to that amount.
I imagine 30X has no molecules, but 1X doesn't either? Or did they not go into that much detail in the news report?

The probably figure since it won't do anything anyway why bother putting passion flower in it at all. And they sorta have a point.

...damn I was wondering the same thing...
I mean, how do you get a "tincture" into a pill anyway?

I guess you take the lactose, roll it in the supposedly "active" water, and press it into a pill.
Then you sell the sugar, claiming it has drugs in it.

Wish I'd known about homeopathy before I wasted money on it oh so long ago...

they were 30x i think, but it also mentioned there was no standard for how long the "active" ingredient had to come into contact with the water for in the first place. so I doubt theres anything.

the show was marketplace, its a canadian show, they even had a group of people eat like 2 bottles each of things that would be toxic if there was actually some of the ingredient in it just to prove the point.

So there is the possibility that a 1/10 dilution would work, if it was still in liquid form, and if one took 50 doses of them.

But since it's in pill form it's gotta be just sugar...
Lame...

Before all this drug shit I was debunking BS like homeopathy.

ALL THE BASIC INFO YOU'LL NEED ON HOMEOPATHY

Some stores sell homeopathic meds which are actually herbal, not homeopathic, so don't any of you pounce on me, please.

First and foremost: Homeopathic products are over-the-counter placebos.

Each X means the substance is diluted in water by a factor of 10.
Therefore, 3X = 1,000:1 dilution, 6x = 1,000,000:1 dilution, etc.
They also have 'C' which means that for every C, the substance is diluted
by a factor of 100! so 3C = 6X = 1,000,000:1.

In fact, in a proper homeopathic med, the dilution is supposed to be so high that not a single molecule of the active substance is in the solution (100x, for instance, is not so uncommon). The higher the dilation, the more effective the substance (according to the theory behind it). So in a way, you are getting what 'they' call an extract.

Additionally, the substance is the opposite of the one you want. If you want to sleep, you should go for the one with caffeine in it. But remember, proper homeo-meds don't have a single molecule of that substance in the product.
So how does it work, according to the great master and his followers? Water memory. The water supposedly has a certain 'memory' for the substance which it was once mixed with and will therefore exhibit its properties, even though every trace of the substance has been removed.

It is total over-the-counter BS (a.k.a sugar pill) or a mislabelled product.
I know this post is long, but OP please tell me if you read it to the end.
I hope I helped!

p.s. Assuming this water memory exists, aren't we taking extracts of shit, piss, drugs, poison, and god knows what else? This makes sense if you read my post.

If water memory exists we would constantly be taking extracts of everything, think water cycle.

Homeopathy is quackery. Flush those pills down the toilet. There's some "water memory" for you.

You could scare your family by eating them all in front of them (take them out of some real med bottle or something). Make sure to verify that you've got the truly phony kind, though. It might not be such a great idea in the end... -_-

As regards the "water memory" in homeopathy, supposedly it only takes place after the process of succession is underwent, where you strike a container full of the solution against something in a specific ritual way.

Opium is a homeopathic remedy, apparently, that you take for, among other things, "apathy." LOL. Of course, in huge dilutions, so there is no actual opium present. But this makes me wonder -- to be technical and pedantic about it, aren't they at some point dealing with a controlled substance to manufacture the stuff? How does that work out for them legally? And is the homeopathic opium sold in less-diluted forms that might have a tiny trace of opium in them? And, technically speaking, under the law, doesn't that make them a controlled substance, as ridiculous as this may be from any logical perspective? Inquiring minds want to know.

And could you take a homeopathic dilution of cocaine or amphetamine for sleep? What would a homeopathic dilution of a psychedelic do?

And, of course, I am reminded of Shulgin's comment:

“The extension of the two-carbon chain of mescaline by alpha-methylation to the three-carbon chain of tma approximately doubled the potency of the compound. And it was felt to be a completely logical possibility that, by extending it one more carbon atom, to the four carbon chain of alpha-ethyl-mescaline, it might double again.
“And following that logical progression, the doubling of potency with each additional carbon atom, the factor would be 2 to the 7th power by the alpha-octyl (or 256× that of mescaline) and with a side chain of a 70-carbon alkyl group (alpha-heptacontylmescaline) it would take just a single molecule to be intoxicating.
“This was rich fantasy stuff. As an active compound, just where would it go in the brain? With an 80-carbon side-chain, would one-thousandth of a single molecule be enough for a person? Or might a single molecule intoxicate a thousand people?
“And how long a chain on the alpha-position might be sufficient that, by merely writing down the structure on a piece of paper, you would get high? Maybe just conceiving the structure in your mind would do it. That is, after all, the way of homeopathy.”

I think homeopathy is a bunch of bullshit, but there are lulz to be had therein -- for instance, by strict interpretation of Hahnehmann's thesis, as OP took more of the pils, they should become less effective.

Yep...
I read your post Lord, jsyk.
And I did eat every one of the little placebos I had.
About 80+ sugar pills, and they did ABSOLUTELY nothing...
So I took 150mg of benadryl all crushed up, hoping to get some sleep.
Unfortunately they only last for about 12 hours (which is how long I slept).
I need a doctor. This not being able to sleep at night is ridiculous.

Almost as ridiculous as homeopathy...

Seriously.
When I wasted my money on them I was hoping for an extract of natural herbs, but instead received these ridiculous sugar pills that supposedly have water in them...
Unfortunately there's not health food or herb store in my area (at least that I know of).
Walgreen's has these homeopathic "remedies" alongside FDA approved treatments, giving the illusion that they will work.
I don't know how it's legal to sell something, specifically marketed FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION, and not have the FDA analyze and approve it beforehand...

So, anybody who receives anything homeopathic, and is wondering how much of it they should take:
Assuming there are X's to signify potency, just take them all. They won't do anything.
I guarantee it...
