Actually, rikidozan, I do like my hip hop. I understand the try-hard "keep it real" sentiment, because I grew up listening to hip hop and reading hip hop media, so I used to be like that too. Then I woke up & realised that all the "I'm cool" posturing & "keeping it real" had absolutely no relationship to what sounded good to my ears. I love my music, so I let my ears tell me what's good, not some restrictive idea of what falls into hip hop & what doesn't. "Yeah, that's good, we'll claim that as ours. That's wack, it belongs somewhere else." You sound like the Aussie media chasing after a fucking celebrity.
So rikidozan, 'cause I'm a sport, & I know you like a laugh, would you care to hear what other gems of "hip pop" I have in my collection?? Yep, that's right, I own a Hammer tape, an MC Young tape, & ooh, there's even a Kriss Kross single or two... Ooh! Ooh! I've even got DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince - "And in this corner...". You'll have to help me out on that one, 'cause I believe it might be borderline seeing as it was before they blew up...
So, as you can see, you are cooler than me. Your music tastes are so much more underground than I could ever dream of being.
Cheers,
Ben.
PS. I believe that 3rd Bass lyric is "hip hop got turned into hit pop". Please, seeing as you're so hip hop, find the respect for the originators to use the correct term.
