Can someone tell me what real sources we have on The Bible and the history it proclaims? I know we have the bible and 3 other sources, The Roman Pilate, Josephus, some other Jewish Priest. But I need all the sources, is Christianity proven? My father was saying that Jesus did die and rise and thats a fact.

This belongs in Thoughts & Awareness - moving over :)

Emil, you know exactly where this thread belongs, why did you start it in Second Opinion? If you keep creating unnecessary work for our staff, you'll leave me no choice. So knock it off.

Stasis,

believe it or not, i didn't do that on purpose, thanks for giving me some more chances. I understand you can't tolerate too much nonsense from me. I'm trying to abide by rules.

your dad must be religious, his faith's existance is apaerantly a fact. but faith and fact are different, with facts faith is not necceccery. hiroshima, nagasiki, aushwits, warsaw, and vietnam - those are facts, hey zuis the lightning god is not.

There has been discussions about this in T&A so read up the threads. There is also new research being done and a doco released about the new testiment. Basically it stated there are 50+ gospels not included in the bible and not released to the pubic, and of the bible, there isnt a single page that is an exact copy of the original texts. Not only did they translate but the church also added its own theories, thoughts and ideas. It even changed the story in placed it didnt think it was good enough.

That shit would have been funny if they found out that the Romans let jesus go at the last minute and he just showed up to his homie's pad a few days later.

nothign showed up in google. why say the koran said he wasn't crucified? lets not forget, the koran came after the king james bible.

It was called 'Lost Worlds: Who wrote the New Testament?" and was shown in Australia on SBS television.

LOST WORLDS - WHO WROTE THE NEW TESTAMENT?
The New Testament, the basis of today's Christian faith, is a collection of 27 compositions, 21 of them letters, all first written in Greek. No originals have been found, only copies of copies written many years afterwards. The earliest known text of the New Testament (dated to about 125 AD) is on a papyrus fragment held in the John Rylands Library in Manchester. This three-part series tells the story of the evolution of the 27 books of the New Testament. (From the UK, in English) (PART 1) PG CC

Who Wrote the New Testament? - $29.95

Screening on SBS from Sunday 22 February 2004 at 8:30pm.
The New Testament, the basis of today's Christian faith, is a collection of 27 compositions, all first written in Greek. This three-part series tells the story of the 27 books of the New Testament.

Episode 1: What is Truth?
This episode looks at the most famous quartet in history - Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Were they the men who wrote the four gospels? Who were they? Why did they write the gospels and when?

Episode 2: Maintaining the Truth
Episode 2 studies the letters of the New Testament, many of which warn the early Christian communities against heretics and their teachings. The episode examines the letters of Jesus' brothers, James and Jude, and look at Paul's conversion and how, through his subsequent correspondences with the churches of the Mediterranean, Christianity spread out of its homeland and became a growing international movement.

Episode 3: But, Whose Truth was the Truth?
This episode looks at how these heresies emerged, the literature that was produced and the dangers they posed to the early church. Few have heard of the fifty 'other' gospels that circulated in antiquity including the gospel of Thomas, the gospel of Mary Magdalene and writings by Judas Iscariot and Pontius Pilate. Then there are countless letters - some of them valid, others dangerously heretical and few that nearly made it into the accepted canon. If these had made it into the New Testament, Christianity and our understanding of Christ would be fundamentally different.

Who Wrote the New Testament?:The Making of the Christian Myth - $34.95

Burton L Mack
Screening on SBS from Sunday 22 February 2004 at 8:30pm.
In this groundbreaking and controversial book, Burton Mack brilliantly exposes how the Gospels are fictional mythologies created by different communities for various purposes and are only distantly related to the actual historical Jesus.

Mack's innovative scholarship which boldly challenges traditional Christian understanding will change the way you approach the New Testament and think about how Christianity arose.

The clarity of Mack’s prose and the intelligent pursuit of his subject make compelling reading. Mack’s investigation of the various groups and strands of the early Christian community out of which were generated the texts of Christianity’s first anthology of religious literature and makes sense of a topic that has been confusing.
