I tend to see it like God has most within His control, but has left 1% to chance, just because this can bring about some interesting results which otherwise wouldn't have come into creation (like our lives).

So it's not necessarily the case that everything is fair, all goes according to plan, and everyone gets what they deserve, etc.

I also think this is something agreed upon by all of us, or us all as a collective, as we like the results that can come with it.

If you tell your children, for instance, that they have the freedom of choice or free will to make their beds or not, but if they choose not to, you will ground them for a week. Have you negated their free choice?

Is that coercion not having a large effect on what you are telling your children is a free choice?
Are you not pushing them towards the choice you want them to make?

We could also go the other way with you telling your children that if they choose to make their beds, a large reward awaits them.

That too would negate a fee and unencumbered choice. Right?

Dear moderator, of course Gnostic Bishop has every right to start a thread on Bluelight inviting us to comment on the God of the Bible being a Hitlerian monster and other similar theads. But here's my point: in the same vein, would a thread be allowed on Bluelight inviting comment on the disproportionate amount of negative threads and comments being posted by Gnostic Bishop? Or how interesting or relevant they actually are and how many people groan when Gnostic Bishop starts up yet another grim, doom-laden topic for comment? Review them yourself, and ask yourself how helpful they are to anybody except perhaps to him/herself. Is blue light in fact serving as some kind of therapist's couch for this guy? As a relative newbie to this forum, I think in the main it is accented towards the positive, and of course freedom of speech is paramount. But to me, Gnosic Bishop's ranting and ravings are now just plain boring. Please don't get me wrong here, I'm not angry or anything just interested in why GB seems to have such a monopoly - and boy such a negative one, on this particular board. Or am I alone in this?

Gnostic Bishops threads, as all good threads should, start as a post designed to invoke discussion and thought within the parameters of the intention of the subforum.

If you could find a subforum which is for threads relating to discussing the views, validity and worthwhile of specific members, then sure.. start your thread..

But don't expect it to be too long before a thread is made about whiny posters who waah waah waah :'(

The OP is kind of a sweeping generalization, really. Most modern day Christians only loosely associate with the Bible contextually. A lot is now ignored out of social norms, or just plain practicality.

It's the mega institutions like the Catholic Church that should be questioned and scrutinized. Hitler got the idea for the Jewish ghettos from the pogroms of old, arm band and all. The Church basically gave its silent consent about the whole thing while also receiving priceless treasures from the ransacking of the Jews and other countries, most of which are still hidden away in the Vatican catacombs. The Church is the forefather of the holocaust really.

You can't blame every individual Christian though. It's a socioculturally diverse world.

If a Christian can read the history of the Christian church and remain a Christian then he has no morals IMO.

Christianity is based on human sacrifice and trying to profit from a needless murder by a God who condemned his own creation for not being as created. Religions cannot get much more insane than that.

Although over 99% of Islamist are peaceful, maybe 1% take the Quaran text to the extreme. The "covert or die" philosophy.

I guess you could have extreme Christians that advocate violence, but that would be going against Christ's philosophy.
