i had 2 seizures a week or two apart like 4 years ago when i was abusing xanax. i only did like 3mg every other day, never everday. i thought having my day inbetween made it all good. well...when i had those seizures and went to the hospital and they told me i had xanax in my system, i automatically assumed the xanax withdrawal did it. but heres the thing...i didnt have any other side effects other than maybe just feeling a little weird mentally. just that uncomfortable feeling you have when your trying to stop benzos cold turkey.
now, 2012, after doing alot of reading and researching, im finding the reason i had the seizures was bc i was prescribed tramadol, 100mg per day, sometimes 200mg per day. i found out ultram (tramadol) lowers your seizure threshold. i have NEVER heard of that until i started on this forum regularly. so looking back now, i dont think i would have had those seizures if i wasnt taking the tramadol. im not using this to say i can go back to doing whatever i want, bc i did learn something from that.
But what do you guys think? no seizures ever in my life, before, or after those two that were close together. i think i was like 4 or 5 days without doing any benzos, but i was using ultram instead, and lots of it. and i never had flu like symptoms, or any of the other stuff you hear people mention with benzo withdrawal. I DID, have alot of nightmares when i quit cold turkey. really real ones. but do you guys think it was the ultram, the benzos, or both? do you think if it was just the benzos, maybe 10mg a week total average, i shoulda been able to cold turkey that? i did quit cold turkey when the seizures happened, and it took me a few months to feel "normal" again. but if i knew for sure it wasnt just the xanax, it would be a relief to me.
i know benzos arent safe, but it just seems like i would have had more warning signs other than, surprise! your having a seizure!
