*Help* please - Respiratory depression? Mixed Klonapin and opiates (and dexedrine)

I know - it's retarded to post anything on the internet when it comes to possibly dangerous/fatal health issues... but please just some quick responses would help me out in this situation.

I've been on benzos for a long time like 2 and 1/2 years. Used to be perscribed as high as 6mg of Xanax XR a day... I recently completely detoxed, and am no longer phsyically dependant on it. However, I am sure tolerance does not reset to zero.

I now have Klonapin to take as needed. But not as an everyday thing.

I have a decent opiate tolerance. I do them sometimes, never been the least bit physically dependent. example: I can blow 60mg of Oxycodone at once and be really really high but no where near ODing or getting sick or anything.

****
I took 1 mg of Klonapin somewhere between 7-8 pm earlier....

I had taken my prescribed normal dose of 50mg of Dexedrine way earlier.

Then about 30 minutes ago - I snorted a small line of dope (I don't normally do the stuff, just rarely when a friend gives me some). I had done lines of this same bag so I knew the strength plenty well.

The line I snorted of the dope was very roughly a 1/8th (or maybe even less) of a normal $40 bag. It was a little smaller line than I normally have sniffed with this dope. Prop So really, really small in a normal users eyes. But I don't do a lot of opiates.

Did this because I could feel the Dexedrine was wearing off, and I find that opiates have a nice anti-comedown, synergy property...

Felt fine for the first 15 mins or so.... then started freaking out, and since then I've been really scared. Feels like I definitely have some degree of respiratory depression. Breathing feels uncomfortably labored and forced. My heart-rate has been going between normal, slow and fast.

I also had a redbull & cig or 2 slowly drank and smoked at some-point between the last couple hours.

I rarely have panic attacks anymore, but I have a really bad, severe history of them.

Considering I snorting the dope at something like 1:40am and it's 2:28 and I'm obviously doing well enough to type this thread.. I'd say it's been actually roughly 45 minutes now..and write way more than was necessary, do you think I am just having some medium/mild respiratory depression , which maybe sparked a panic attack/anxiety? The only other symptom I am having besides the breathing and anxiety/heart-rate is my body temperature feels a bit hot. Very mildly perspiring now.

If I did anymore opiates than snort that small line... or had also been drinking, or didn't have a long history with benzos/had taken more than 1mg of Klonapin, I would be a little more worried.

But it comes and goes in terms of thinking to myself "fuck oh my god, why did you do that you need to call 911" ... One minute I'm literally ready to pickup my phone and call 911... or drive myself to the hospital. And a couple minutes later "I think I'm okay, just deep calm breaths... it will pass soon, you're okay.." . I'm ALL for being SAFE THAN SORRY, But I REALLY REALLY do not want to do this unless absolutely necessary. I tried calling my doctor , he was asleep.. I just have been through too much dramatic things and the last thing in the world is for my parents or MYSELF to deal with me going to the hospital for respiratory depression from drugs.

Even if the ambulance comes and just checks me out and says I am okay, and I don't have to have a bill sent home or actually go to the hospital... I KNOW I seriously learned my lesson for good with mixing stuff.

So PLEASE any quick replies to what you think ,especially from personal experience. What does opiate + benzo respiratory depression feel like? Wouldn't I be in bad shape now if it was anything I should go to the hospital / call 911 for?

IS there a risk for serious/fatal repository depression happening even though 40+ minutes have gone by since snorting the dope?? Like can you having respitory depression and be typing semi-articulately like I am now, and able to act normal in front of my roommates (hasn't noticed anything wrong, I probably seem 100% normal).

I just know nothing about this really, and is it something that can happen hours later?

Last thing is I don't feel even remotely close to "nodding off" or sedated, passing out, eyes closing, at all.

*I was under the impression a small line of dope (for the tolerance of someone who can snort 60mg of oxy and be ok) does not really last too long.

Thank you. And I apologize in advance for this being a huge geek-out post. I just get more anxious trying to google information when I am already feeling scared about ODing, respitory depression, bad drug interactions etc.

If the consensus is that I am okay... okay enough to type this and that it will pass in a bit... if nothing else, it is good harm-reduction at least for myself to know in detail about respiratory depression, incase I am ever with someone who has mixed benzos and opiates and appears to be having RD. I'm sure as hell never doing it again.

well you did write that post, a long post at that. I'd just stay up a couple more hours to make sure and if possible have someone check on you or give you a call. I'm quite sure it's anxiety, i get the same thing when i mix benzos and opiates because i always hear about how dangerous they are and then i get worried at any little sign that my breathing is slowing down.

i'd still be careful and wait it out and if possible have someone check on you or check in on you to make sure you are still fine. The half life of heroin is pretty short so i'd say you're in the clear but if you find yourself worrying any more or that things are getting worse instead of better just go get yourself checked out.

Hi Blutedskier,

Are you on your own ? I would strongly advice that at the very least you get a friend to come over and keep an eye on you. Don't drive as it doesn't sound like you in a fit state to do so and you could injure yourself or someone else.

I understand that you don't want all the fuss of going to hospital but as you say, better safe than sorry so if you are on your own and can't get anyone to come over, please either call 911 or a taxi and get yourself some medical assistance ASAP.

make sure you post back and let us know how you get on.

Best Wishes

So your only symptoms are that you have become aware that your breathing is a bit slower/shallower than normal and your heart rate seems to be changing? These could just be normal effects from the drugs you took combined with anxiety, but if it's worrying you or seems to be getting worse, you should seek medical attention. The best thing to do is get someone to sit with you so that if your breathing stops they can call an ambulance. If you are alone then get on the phone with someone and tell them to call 911 (or whatever your local emergency number is if not 911) if you stop responding.

Usually when a person overdoses on opioids/benzos they just pass out and stop breathing. People rarely realize when they are overdosing. I know I should probably be all "go to the hospital immediately!" just to be on the safe side, because we certainly can't give you medical advice or properly assess your situation over the internet, but I've been in your situation before and it was always just anxiety - the time I did actually OD I had no idea and just woke up in the hospital. It normally happens very fast. If you snorted the heroin around 45 minutes ago and all other drugs you took had already peaked by that point, then you should be experiencing peak effects from the heroin right now. Onset of effects from snorting heroin takes about 10 minutes and the peak occurs after about 30-45 minutes.

Please let us know how you are doing! :)

Also telling us you took "roughly a 1/8th of a normal $40 bag" doesn't really explain how much you took because we have no idea how much heroin is in a $40 bag in your area or how potent that heroin was. In the future find out how many grams or mgs you are taking and dose more precisely. As to your question about how long the effects of heroin last when snorted, usually around 6 hours (or longer if you count the mild after-glow effects).

Yes, I had my roommate/good friend here.. For sure the worst idea is to ever be alone with anything like that.

Now it's 4am... Feeling depressed/tired but otherwise, completely normal in terms of breathing, heart-rate et cetra. I think I did have mild RD since my benzo tolerance is an all time low and small line or not, heroin is a powerful opiate... but I think it mostly caused a panic attack, making whatever level of respiratory depression going on seem 100x more serious than it was.

Four or so years ago during freshman year in college, I almost died and woke up in the ICU with all sorts of tubes in me, crying parents at my bedside... horrible stuff (due to an unintentional but impulsive situation consuming alcohol excessively and getting into a fight with this girl and downing a buch of her benzo prescription). So, understandably even the thought of anything even remotely similar invokes a lot of anxiety in me.

I'm tired, but natural tired.. so I am going to assume it is safe to fall asleep now.

Thank you to all three of you, Atm23, RobotRipping & swimmingdancer, for your concern and responses. I appreciate it in the most sincere way.

Great, glad to hear you're ok! I know how you feel, ever since I OD'd on cocaine that was unknown to me mixed in with the heroin I'd purchased (it may actually have been entirely cocaine, and I had no tolerance to cocaine but a high tolerance to heroin) I've been super paranoid.

Some respiratory depression is normal with opiates. Slightly slower or shallower breathing does not in itself indicate a serious or potentially fatal overdose, it's when it gets to the point where you are not getting enough oxygen or you stop breathing that it is dangerous. It's good you had someone else with you, that is the best thing you can do to prevent an overdose becoming fatal, since people can't usually do anything about it themselves when they OD. I agree that you were probably noticing the effects on your breathing and heart rate and got really anxious. I really hope you stick to your decision to not use heroin again. The risk of addiction or overdose is really NOT worth it <3 . Especially addiction, 1 in 4 people who try heroin become seriously addicted and there is no way to know whether you are going to be that 1 in 4 or somehow prevent yourself from getting addicted, it just creeps up on you over time.
