I have been using dope for about 2-3 years now, off and on. I recently got into shooting. and has always had an extremely hard time finding a vein, sometimes taking over an hour to my great frustration. there is nothing worse than being sick and missing your shot. I try to tie off with a belt, make it tight and slap my arm a few times, maybe the belt isnt good for this. Still its hard to get a vein up. Any suggestions would help a lot.

Thanks

Try soaking a clean hand towel in hot water and wrap it snugly around your forearm or wherever you plan to shoot for a few minutes.

Try some pushups before hand and then tie up. When I was unskilled at shooting I usually went for my hand or wrist. These aren't the greatest veins to hit cause there are a lot of little nerves floating around these areas (but it got the job done I never had any serious reactions). Other than that I would try the inside of the elbow there are veins right on the outsides of the nooks (9 o clock for the left arm) as well as ones on the upper-insides (1-2 o clock for the left arm). I always get that nice slow-flowing dark red blood with these inside-elbow veins.

I actually had the same issue.......I took a hot shower and when I got out, with bright lights in the bathroom< I noticed all kinds of spots, found an awesome spot on inside of elbow like other poster said, and have been shooting like a god damn cowboy since....practice makes perfect(and little holes)

thats cool, i might try a hot shower later tonight. Someone told me that lifting weights also helps. Shower is prob better tho, since your whole body is getting hot. Thanks guys.

first of all you should find that if you are right handed the veins in that arm are easer to hit and vs versa.

heat will bring your veins to the top, so as others have already said a hot towel or good steam bath will work wonders.

if you decide to tie off be sure to inject towards the end of what veins pop up or you could risk damage. even better only tie off to find them; remove once you have located the vein and before shooting. "mark it with a pen if you must"

always shoot towards your hart and put the needle in at about a 45 ° angle with the bezel on the needle facing towards your hart.

also to help pop up your veins, rest your elbow on your knee and then stretch your forearm down with your fingers extended back, this will help to bring them up.

never shoot pinkish blood either, it burns!!!
I also have alot of trouble due to shooting for awhile and most of my veins are just done. There are several good veins on the back of your arm and even on your feet. They are all over, you couldnt circulate if not.

Pink blood?

Do you mean light colored blood? You know, like you'd get from hittin' an artery. 'Cause shootin' there would hurt.

thank you all sooo much! i spent like 4 hours poking my arms and nothing..and then i did some push ups and belted up and i got one

this has all been discussed many times before someone should make it a dang sticky. first of got a question are you a guy or girl?
Just cuz i kno its a little harder for chick in most cases to IV there veins are a lil smaller then guys and dont bulge as much. As said above..
hot shower.. hot rag on arm.. do push ups... do some arm curls.... tieing off always helps.... run around.

And staying well hydrated helps ya may not kno it but when your dehydrated it harder to find veins.

^i'm surprised no one mentioned staying hydrated untill now. thats the best way to keep your veins easy to find. try doing pushups or fist pumps, or a good rubber tourniquet like the ones you can get from the needle exchange.

^^

I found a nice one with a clip on it, you can tie off and once you find the vein you just push on one of the clips and it lets lose.

though I don't use a tourniquet any more. I have figured out where they are and can hit them without extending them first.

not something to write home to mom about though I'm afraid.

one last thing. I learned this from a helpful book, "Heroins Hand Guide" you can if you don't have a clip or a belt rest your arm on you leg, cross you other let across your arm as a tie off. it works quite well to pop up your veins.

weirdest place i ever shot was in that vein that runs down your V muscle. i dont now what its called but it was pretty painful. get dehydrated and mess your veins up and you have to go digging....and it sucks.

I don't think anyone has mentioned arm circles. Swing your arms in a circle (like you are playing cricket?) and then tie off really fast. You can feel the blood rushing to your hands.
