The main thing that worries me about sites like BL is not the possibility of a sting, but simply the publicization of the means of acquiring drugs. For example, through BL and similar sites it is not difficult to get sources for opiates, cocaine, psychedelic RCs of all descriptions, etc. Sooner or later this is going to be a big issue and there will be a major national crackdown. Large-scale drug sniffing operations in both the USPS and private carriers are probably just a couple of years over the horizon; the technology is already there (forget dogs, machines are surpassing them), and all that's lacking is the political will. As soon as "KIDS ARE BUYING DRUGS ON THE INTERNET" stories start appearing everywhere, politicians will take notice. This is the golden age, and it won't last long.
Heh -- our local news had a big "expose" the other day that you can buy glass smoking pipes in convenience stores downtown. I LOL'd.
I have both responded to and posted and ad on craigs list looking for coke and met 2 dealers that way (this is aftere I got out of the game and dropped all my old asociates).
I can understand news stories being done on this sort of thing, and/or busts/sting set ups done (they do it at craigslist busting johns using hookers, etc) but they can not stop it any more than they can stop drugs or prostitutioin in general.
Be smart. Be cautious. If your spidy sense tells yo to bakc off do it, better to looose a good potential connection than wind up in cuffs. Take your time getting to know people, put them through the paces. Don't incriminate youselve by making declariative sttements, keep it to "i MIGHT be interested" or that sounds intesting we should hang out"
Cops are gonna want to press for a deal. Dealers are doing to be as suspicius of you as you are of them, if not more. Cops have nothing ot 'worry' about if they set up or know ahead of time the final buy location, etc.
So change that shit up. Tell the person your uncomfortable dealing with new people and want to go grab a coffee down the street. Tell him your looking for someone you can come to know and tust and possibly deal wiht long term and like to take steps to help you feel safe. Cops are not wanna play games like htat unless it is for a major score. Some dealers won't either, but they are impuslive and geeedy dealers and trust me they will go down eventually, if they have not been busted already.
Then you take things to a different town, you let him know aheald of time you like to be extra careful because it's in everyone's best interstss and your looking for long term safe individulals to deal with. Go have the coffee and see if your followed. Go for a drive to some place where it's hard to be followed. Cops are not going to want to do that because it leaves one of their offiicers out there one on one with someone. They will likely resist and push for the deal right there. If that happens just walk, it might be an impatient dealer, but that dude is going to eventually get busted anyway I promise you.
The thing with cops is that they don''t want to invest time with small time bs. They don't want 4 people (the frontman and 3 backup) on a sting for an 8 ball lasitng 4 hours. That shit is going to drive them crazy. And as every minute goes by after you talk about getting the coffee they have to sweat that someone is gonns pull a weapon as well as deal with the logistical nightmare of picking up shop and following you. They are gonna press for a deal right there. Don't bite. You might miss out on the best dealer in the city but that is the way you have to operate when dealing with stranges in this game if you wannna stay out of cuffs, and especially out of court and jail.
There are too many easy marks for cops to bust for them to waste the manpower to try to entrap a polite, respectful person who is making it very difficult for them to get the deal done on their terms. The regular patrol officer pull peeople over with weed and coke and heroin every day during traffic stips and stakeouts of smalltime streat dealers so have ample opportunity to use this resource to try to flip people and get higher level dealers. That's why they won't risk it and change locations, etc withsomeone unless they have reason to believe it's gonna lead to a really big bust. They have too many suckers on a string already so they are gonna argue against changing locaitons (unless it's some simple shit like going across the street).
You want to change towns, you want to leave the impression that not only have you not commmited to buying/selling anything, but that after alll of this you still might not buy/sell anything this day. If your not dealing ounces they are not gonna bothe with you if you try to make them jump through hoops like this.
Cops are concerned about managing risk because it is a JOB for them. They wan the control. If the dealer/buyer has a problem with YOU picking the location tell him you can pick 6 potential one's within the area and roll a dice to decide which one to go to (that way a real dealer will know he's not gonna get jumped, not that he has to bring his stufff wiht him anyway). Tell him your paranoid and like to avoid police and courts and hope he likes to do the same.
The longer you spend talking with him the more likely you are to pick up on if he is legit or a cop.
And with snitches some of them have nothing to loose and will take mad risks to gain favor with cops so it is much harder to avoid someone turned rat. But if you are careful you can avoid having the cops anywher near you when something goes down, and snitches typically BUY, not sell. cops don't want to be giving snitches and ounce of blow to walk out the door with some stranger to have coffee at a neighboring town yet to be determined, at a donout shop yet to be determinded. lol
