harvard?

I've been to Harvard for a little while--and from the people I met that went full time to undergrad there, a lot were really arrogant, though I found there are some cool people, especially oddly enough the athletes

It's lame as hell, do not chill in the area-most people at Harvard don't that I know--all there is in S Cambridge is the Hong Kong, the 7-11, finals clubs (lame), and some really cool stoners over 30 years old

If you need to stay in Cambridge, MIT is WAY better scene--they have a yearly party where people bring suitcases of drugs one weekend, give it out for free, constant parties really, and if you don't mind going over the bridge(short walk)
Boston has a good bar scene with a tough fake ID policy outside of some South Boston pubs but Northeastern and clubs are pretty cool

I spent most of my time smoking doobies on the Charles watching people row and do crew and stuff--really didn't spend time there when it was cold, so that was really cool

Well I go to U of Michigan, which, at least statewide, has a stereotype of being all JAPpy, all from the East Coast, all terrible people. But I promise, once you dig a little bit, there are any amount of people that you can socialize with. Doesn't matter what type of person you are, you can always find someone to associate with. Its the beauty of a big school.

All I'm trying to say is that at a school the size of Harvard, you will be able to find the type of people that you are looking for, no matter what type of person that is.

My good friends brother is graduating from Harvard this spring, and the drug scene there seems quite good. Especially in terms of hallucinogens.

I teach at Harvard. While I think it is a school that rides on its reputation a bit and is a little lacking in resources despite all its funding, it's still a very solid school with some great faculty. ;)

Oh, and there are several drug users in my class. I can tell, heh.

Holy crap, you teach at Harvard?!?!? Not that it wasn't already high, but you just broke the needle on my respectometer. Do you mind me asking what subject?

Organic chemistry -- labs in fact. What else? :D

Duh, of course...should have been obvious from the start 8)

Good for you. I was gonna continue my biochem training next semester with Organic chem, but I'm this close to dropping my chemB class (procrastinating dug me a hole I cant get out of) and I'm having serious reservations against this choice of degree. I mean, why get a BA in biochem and make less than 50k a year in a horrible corporation when I can sell insurance or real esate (no degree required) and make six figures a year? But that would also be a waste of my intellect, so I dunno what I'm gonna do. Choices are hard

As in a tf for masse or a tf for procter? I've heard and I'm sure you know better, this is procter's last summer orgo and that masse is getting the boot from student complaints so there will be new orgo peeps all around. I'm in 1b right now and considering my options, summer orgo or fa-sp orgo/bio or orgo/phys (will be ron, rueckner is on sabattical next fall).

Anyone here been to Eton, Harrow or Winchester? What about Oxford or Cambridge? Just curious...

AlphaNumeric goes to Cambridge. He's on a whole other level with math.

i'm maybetinymaybesad reincarnated and now i've been at harvard for a year and harvard basically does suck socially at least. or maybe i just suck at socializing. there are definitely drugs around albeit flaky in terms of options, but the party scene is shitty.

i'm interested to here more about fairnymph's and morb's experiences at harvard.

I left recdrugland to do this premed shit, as the saying goes "I go to harvard, I have no life". The only thing I would be interested in, besides my nootropics, is lsd. I had an ebbnflow full of the bombest hp13/nl last summer in san diego, now look at me, the occasional dexedrine and come down with gabapentin. I know when I was having a better time and isn't it is ironic when you get off the safe illegal stuff you end up buying toxic govt garbage? Believe it, the gov, the pharmacos, big oil it is all the same thing, you may as well be a brain in a vat.

To the chem tf's, Masse is out in the fall and this is Procter's last summer. Logan is in for the fall and Rueckner is on sabattical from physics for the next year, Ron Newburgh is replacing til then.

I gave shrooms up the last time I did them. Made soup and drank the spores, white became red and I didn't have a good time. I could see through my hand and my brother said he puked up blood and I felt terrible after that. But lsd is another story. We are in the same boat with the crappy pharmaco replacements, I can get xyrem but the shit is so expensive. It is about 300 a bottle, and it doesn't last more than a few hours and it isn't really that great. So I mess with small doses of amphetamines and the aforementioned gabapentin, not great but apparently better than nothing. The deprenyl has been nice all around. I could get benzos but everything I've read says they are such bad news and not great for the memory and I need to remember all this shit for the mcat. As for no one wanting to have deep conversations, seems to me those only ever happened when I was getting fucked up with people. When I was an undergrad I met a lot of people. But it is lamentable that we don't really make friends. I mean you will but it's not like they will miss you if you just disappear one day. Relationships at harvard for the most part are just out of convenience ie no one wants to be completely isolated or you have to have lab partners. I don't know if that is just about getting older or more indicative of the times. It's too easy to tell if people are using you, idk, I try to be real.

Ohhhhhhhhhh yeah. Well I mean what can you expect, psychedelics are the best. The smart Harvard kids know this. All the smart people take psychedelics.:)

Thats pretty cool that you teach at Harvard fairynymph. I never would have suspected a Harvard professor among the bluers. Think you can get me in=D

I was going to say, when I read the original thread, "I don't think you are going to have a ton of time for partying at Harvard."

No one goes to Harvard to party.

PSU

I think the point is that the whole youth culture is just exploitation. Not only does it make money but it serves to distract the younger generations while marginalizing older generations. It is a powerful effect if the majority of entertainment and advertisement is youth dominated, it is oscar wilde's lord henry saying youth is the only thing worth having. This country is so fucked up it is incredible, and the whole world is too. Movie's that really explored conspiracy aren't made anymore. Go back to thx1138 or network, those films are incredibly relevant. Thx or f451 are all orwellian disinformation and mindcontrol through drug use/tv and network is right on the money about there being no countries only corporations. Power is so entrenched and we are so inured that there is no hope. The best you can do is try to get to the top of the money mountain and someday do your own thing in your own time. Along the way you will conform, when you get there you will have pretended to be something else for so long you will be the dragon.

the UK has a lot of similar problems re: mistaking education for vocation. allegedly higher notions of academia as a pursuit unto itself (to which i wholeheartedly subscribe) are increasingly subsumed by the question on most teenager's educational lips: which uni / course will give me the biggest house and the shiniest car?

i was under the impression that gaining acceptance at Eton, Harrow etc. required nothing more than a substantial amount of cash - rather than any intellectual prowess. there may be some tests based on how many public buildings display your family's coat of arms, or the number of groundstaff at your country place, but other than that there's nothing intellectually distinguished about Eton or Harrow... unless i'm mistaken?

i've known people at both who were all wealthy and not particularly scholastic - can't speak for Winchester tho.

i'm going to start postgrad at cambridge in 10 weeks time =D

I'm at Cambridge (for another 2 weeks, then my 4 years are up). The vast majority of us are normal, but too many people jump to the stereotype of posh gits who went to Eton because their daddy is the Earl of Kent or something.
