Hamilton Morris gets high for a living

I'm sure Hamilton wouldn't be where he is today without having had a little bit of a leg up from his dad

I concur. But good luck to 2,5-DM-4-LYFE him. Seems like a decent enough chap who struck it lucky combining personal passion with personal circumstance. Suspect many of us round BL parts would <3 to have his job and actually get paid for it.

BL pension ftw <3

I don't understand why everyone says that. It wasn't really an interview but the Shulgins didn't want to be. He's a chemistry and drug nerd meeting two of his heroes. I didn't get to read the article, that might've sucked, but in the youtube video he was just geeking out. His questions were kind of weird but they sounded to me like the sort of responses I gave when my Acid dealer first started talking to me about something other then business; highly awkward. Same thing goes for when I tried to make conversation, it was fairly trite and not worth shit.

He certainly gets more media attention because of his dad, e.g. the Guardian article in the OP, or at the very least journalists know that emphasizing his family is a way to stir up controversy and make people envious/dismissive/angry. Probably it harms him more than it helps because people will automatically assume that he has not earned whatever he achieves.

In NYC vice hire tons of people straight out of college (NYU particularly) and pay them poorly, you certainly don't need to be famous or a literary genus to write at vice. The real reason Hamilton gets attention is simply because he is the only young scientifically literate journalist producing huge amounts of drug related writing and video for a (semi)mainstream media outlet, I can't think of anyone else who is doing what he's doing at the moment.

Couldn't agree more. The fact that Errol Morris was his father wasn't even discussed until not too long ago. Hamilton has just studied and worked his ass off, and has done a great job with it. He is filling a niche that needed to be filled, and does so exquisitely. He is a serious academic that can mesh with the Vice audience, as well as a much broader one (ie Harpers, etc) and his films are not produced by Pops. I sense envy amongst some here ;)
