Hamilton Morris gets high for a living

Quite interesting but the drugs he's getting fed are pants. Maybe when he's in Asia he might get fed something decent by sheer chance but he'll be lucky, there are far more shit drugs than good ones out there IMO.

This cracked me up a bit;

Morris's first meaningful drugs experience came at age 13, "in my friend's Volvo, smoking salvia and crying tears of joy".

That's cos after you get all the good ones theirs none left

Yeah he filmed an encounter with Shulgin where he came accross as an absolute prick...

There used to be a Hamilton who posted on bluelight (I think mainly in ADD), are they different people?

Nope, that's him. He still posts over there now and then. Some of his videos were OK I thought. Skinny jeans in the rain forest though, seriously wtf?

Bruce Parry FTW

^ I always pictured Hamilton as Hamilton Morris when I read his posts, lol.

Yeah some of his stuff is worth watching, although I find him intensely irritating :D I just felt that he could have made a much more interesting video of his meeting with Shulgin, and the whole 'last interview' tag given to it, when it wasn't really an interview etc...

I know Vice is hipster fodder.

I know there's often a lot of tosh in it.

I know Hamilton gets a fair bit of stick.

Bu I really like him.

Specially since that story of his with the scanty clad girl in a gas mask in a tunnel in an old weapons silo.

it's interesting that this article mentions his dad, but doesn't go into much detail of his involvement in hamilton's career.
don't get me wrong, i like morris jr, but it seems his father (who produces all his videos) has a pretty big hand in what he does.
i got the impression from the piece he did in haiti that the interview subjects seemed to be turning to someone off-camera when negotiations take place. not to take anything away from hamilton, i like him (except when he gets gushy over shulgin and that neurosoup snitch-chick).
i eagerly await to see the piece he does about grey-market chinese labs. very interesting indeed!

It's weird that you would say that because it's definitely not true. The article mentions his dad simply because his dad is famous, there is absolutely no way in hell that an academy award winning director is "producing" internet videos for Vice. I've followed Vice and Hamilton's writing for a while now, and saw him speak a few months in ago in NY with other filmmakers from vice. He makes the videos with a small crew who are all identified in the credits, mostly NYU film students.

I hadn't realised that he also wrote a regular column (despite having read a few years ago). Is anyone aware of a URL that will get a list of them all up on the Vice site? When searching I only seem to be able to come accross the odd one that I read years ago.

He certainly gets more media attention because of his dad, e.g. the Guardian article in the OP, or at the very least journalists know that emphasizing his family is a way to stir up controversy and make people envious/dismissive/angry. Probably it harms him more than it helps because people will automatically assume that he has not earned whatever he achieves.

In NYC vice hire tons of people straight out of college (NYU particularly) and pay them poorly, you certainly don't need to be famous or a literary genus to write at vice. The real reason Hamilton gets attention is simply because he is the only young scientifically literate journalist producing huge amounts of drug related writing and video for a (semi)mainstream media outlet, I can't think of anyone else who is doing what he's doing at the moment.
