Had a seizure, ended up with a Fentanyl IV

I have no epileptic history whatsoever. My tolerance to opiates at the moment is low.
This past Saturday I was attending a friend's party. I had used no drugs that day, or in the days prior. I had only 4 glasses of beer and was relaxing in the kitchen talking to a few people.
All of a sudden I wake up and I'm in an ambulance! Turns out I had gone into a grand mal seizure so my understandably panicked friends called 911. Anyhow, to make a long story short, the hospital ran a battery of tests on me (M.R.I, E.E.G, etc.) and found no abnormalities and could find no reason for the seizure.
In the process of the seizure I somehow dislocated my shoulder. A few x-rays confirmed the dislocated shouler, so the doctor injected me with IV Fentanyl to help with the pain. Felt very nice and numbed the blinding pain down to nothing but a mere annoyance. Too bad it only took them about 10 mins to reset my shoulder and the effects seemed to wear off as soon they took out the IV. Is this normal? This was my first fentanyl experience.
(I may go back and say I'm still in pain to see if I can score any additional opiates).

yes, fenatyl is very short acting, but very effective at releiving pain. you should go back and tell them your sholder still hurts to the point you can't sleep/go to work/ect. get a friend to bring you in, cause you "can't even open a door", should get you something decent. remember, the longer you wait, the less credible your story sounds...

If only we coudl combine the rapid onset of IV with the duration of the patch. Everyone and their mother reasearches shorter acting opiates ( after all a constant blood level of fentanyl can easily be kept up in a hospitable via IV bags) and medically they are quite usefull for surgery. Keep the dose level constant during surgery and the patient pops right back out with mimimal opiates effects.
I am sure you could duplicate this idea in the hospitale quites easily ( the guy who shared the room with my father when he was sick was caught shooting heroin into his IV bag. Wonderhow he got caught...I mean this seems pretty easy to pull off.)
Unfortunatly this doesn't help us much. Are all fentanyl derivitives short acting? Do we have any good idea why they are short acting (i.e. what breaks them down).
On a related question does swallowing an OxyContion and then shooting another give you similar effets to having the rush and staying hihg for hours (time release is great if you have a large enough supply)? A similar question applies to oral opiates consumed when you are banging hydromorphone.
If this works it seems a trivial matter to apply the patch shoot your opiate for the rush and enjoy the lasting happy bliss.

The shoulder dislocation happened on Saturday night. Almost 5 days have elapsed since the incident, do you guys think it would sound like a bunch of BS if I told my doctor that the shoulder pain was still driving me crazy? In all honesty it's not bad at all. I can't extend my arm all the way out, and it really does kind've hurt to open a door, operate a light switch, etc. Of course it's not so bad that I can't function, but I wonder if it would be possible to scam a few vicodens or something. Hmmm. I'm kicking myself for not exagerating the story at the time when I was in the hospital.

I don't think it would be suspicious at all. I mean, if you randomly showed up one day complaining of pain, it would take some work to convince the doctor to prescribe you anything. But a seizure and a hospital stay lends a lot of legitimacy to your story. Unless your doctor tends to be really stingy with pain meds, in which case you could walk out with a script for double-strength advil, it shouldn't be difficult to get a bottle of vicodin or something. He may want you to get some X-rays or something though, I don't know how you might deal with that if you don't want to pay for it.

dan: "Hi there doc, my shoulder still hurts".
doc: "OK, I´ll give you some mild tranqui...".
dan: "MILD??? WHAT??? I want Fentanyl you asshole!!! I mean, the pain is too bad, plz give me something heavier!

I have somehow read that the alpha-methyl analogue of fentanyl is longer lasting. However although I know this is true I was wondering what the ED-50 is & also the duration of effects. 100 mics for regular fent also oral administration never mentioned. If you had powdered fentanyl could you dissolve it in a glass of water?

Please give some readons why this is the case (the superior bit). Be as desciptive as possible.

Yeah I guess you are correct. What about carfentanil? I understand that 60 micrograms is teh effective dose for a 100kg man. I am guessing that it is far too potent for regular people.
