H USERS: how can i tell if someone is using....

There's no way to find out that the person is using heroin, other than a drug test, an admission, or finding them with the substance.

All of the suggested telltale signs are attributable to opiates/opiods as a whole, not just heroin.

My advice would be to just ask, and not be judgemental.
 
Eating lots of sweets can be a sign, itching, irritability, pinned pupils, and lots more... those are the most obvious that I can think of right now. Is this person close to you or what? Why are you trying to find out if someone is using? Also if they're using IV you'll see what looks like pin prick marks at the site of injection, if they're bad at it bruising down the arm or around the inejcton site. if they're good you might not see anything.

Track marks can be avoided if you know what you are doing. The pin point pupials I think is the best way to tell. Because I have blue eyes it is super easy to tell when im pinned out. My mom has become so good at judging them that she can tell across the room if I have "little vampire eyes".
 
+1 that not all opioid addicts fit the junky stereotype and will steal to support their habit.

As for the original topic most of the symptoms have been covered. The most common effect of a high dose heroin high is "the nod." Nodding is where you are in a euphoric waking dream-like state. If you are sitting in a chair your head nods forward as you slip in and out of consciousness in a blissful semi-conscious state.

Oh I hear that, my parents always used to be on my shit about my pinned out eyes. Blech.. my pupils are soo big right now.. withdrawls blows.

I disagree. I think the most common effect would be constricted pupils. I know a lot of people that don't nod, regardless of the dose. But, I've never seen anyone with big or normal pupils on a good amount of dope.
 
^^ This is correct. I am a daily user, and unless I shoot upwards of 80 bucks of gear, I will not nod. Yet, I only need 20 worth to feel the rush, albeit moderately. Any dose for me pins out my eyes, and I mean any dose. Even 10 worth will get me shrunk pupil-wise.

I suppose saying monetary amounts isn't really that descriptive, so 20 = .4 of the stuff, and obviously it isn't entirely pure, but it is some real decent gear.

Now to answer the question I would have to agree
that pupils get constricted...obviously.
also some H users tend to crave sweets
they talk really low and prop up their feet.
They are usually relaxed and really don't care
about their surroundings and who all is there.
They also may exhibit some nervous tics
until they can get their next little fix.

coming from someone who is currently hiding their habit from their housemates/friends, if the person is being more secretive than usual and is often behind a closed (locked) door thats a good sign he is up to something.

just be careful with your judgment of your friend. its really easy to give in to the stereotypical view of heroin users (junky) and you will be doing both yourself and your friend a great disservice if you assume anything about him and his habit that you don't explicitly know. the main reasons i haven't told anyone about my use is not because i am out of control but actually the opposite- i am a responsible user but just the social stigmas involved make me feel like i would be judged, regardless of how careful i am with my use.

be open to his opinions. if you end up asking him directly (IMO the best thing to do), make sure you are supportive of him and not judgmental. doing the latter would be the fastest way to ruin a friendship. unless he is completely and obviously out of control (which it seems he is not, especially because you aren't even sure that he uses at this point), dont try to preach to him. im sure he would love to be able to talk to someone about it as long as he knows he won't be judged.

those are the main physical symptoms plus itching, also look for big mood swings (feeling like shit to super friendly/sleepy) and trying to borrow money.

2nd question:
Exactly one year ago, i was in my first day of withdrawl in jail. I ended up staying clean and in jail for about 3 or 4 weeks. it absolutely sucked.
i was in reception in the county jail. this meant no day light, no tv, nothing to read, 23 hours a day in a cell. it sucked alot. but honestly at the time that was the only way i would be able to stay clean for more than 3 or 4 days. it sucked alot cuz they didn't give me anything for the withdrawl, not even an asprin. if you
really complained they would give you an extra blanket.
although some jails in the area give out darvocet, and i guess one used to give out methadone. all i know is that it sucked alot. that was the one and only time kicking in jail and I really really pray i'll never go through that whole ordeal again.

^^^haha, exactly. I love how everyone preaches this non-judgemental do not stereotype shit but automatically assumes he is shooting up. I would venture to say that most heroin users do not inject, and the official statistics back me up (but we all know that official stats are not always that reliable for something as underground as heroin).
 
what are you talking about? people are only "assuming" he's shooting because the original poster said so.
